Bill C-71: Our
Forecast (Why a bill that should be tossed out, won't be) - Editorial
- April 11, 1997 We hope we are wrong. We hope that, after the fact, you can laugh at our
prediction, so that we can laugh with you. But we believe that Bill C-71, the latest shame
of this country, will pass the Senate. There are many reasons inducing us to this
conclusion, and a short analysis may clarify our position.
- ' COLLABO' - The Use Of Children For Squealing And State
Persecution: We Are Like The Ones We Once Fought - Tobacco sting operations have
started all over the United States. If you "look" younger than 27 you now have
to show an I.D. to purchase cigarettes. Of course, Canada is falling promptly in line.
Older-looking children are used as baits for incriminating merchants who make an error in
judgement. The anti-tobacco paranoia is reaching a peak, showing the true political colors
of these mean-spirited times. When a social system rewards the young for becoming
informants, when lies, surveillance and spin doctoring substitute science, honesty and
truth in the scale of values, that system doesn't just fall beneath contempt: it slips beyond
repair. The fate of the Soviet Union has taught nothing to North America. - By

Smoking And Health Promotion In Nazi Germany
- Here are excerpts from "Smoking and health promotion in Nazi
Germany", published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health (1994;
48:220-223), authored by George Davey Smith (Dept. of Public Health, University of
Glasgow), Sabine A. Ströbele (Institute of Medical Sociology, University of Hamburg), and
Matthias Egger (Dept. of Social and Preventive Medicine, Univ. of Beme). This commentary
depicts with great precision and accurate bibliographical references the astonishing
similarity of the nazi propaganda against smoking with the current propaganda of the
antismoking industry. Had we removed the references to the Nazis, the reader would think
that this is contemporary material.
The Italian Supreme Court: Workplace Smoking
Prohibition Is Illegal - "Even in consideration of Article
2087 of the civil code [...] on which is founded the obligation of the employer to take
all necessary measures to protect the health of the workers, it is not allowed, on the
basis of this norm, for an employer to lawfully impose a [total] prohibition of smoking in
the work area allegedly affected by environmental tobacco smoke." "The right of
the employer to impose an absolute prohibition to smoke is not contemplated [in the Code
of Rights]."
Caught In The Act - The Globe
and Mail has revealed details of a smear campaign drawn up by the Non-Smokers
Rights Association against their political opponents. Here's the kicker -- the group
is partly funded by your tax dollars.
Canadian Cancer Society Ads: The Metastasis of Spin Doctoring
- You are addicted. You lack confidence. You cause fires, and you are radioactive.
Worst of all, you are about to be legislated against with the help of the Canadian Cancer
Society. But the Society is not without compassion: they offer you the redemption of a
"fresh start". CCS: praise the Lord, pass the baloney... and GET YOUR BUTTS

Dining With Bureaucrats - Guess who's coming to dinner?
The City of Vancouveranti-smoking police, that's who -- and they're not here to
sample the entrees. - By Anne Mac Diarmid
The Shame Of The Anti-smoking Industry Scam - Discover the
enormous U.S. machine behind the anti-smokers industry. Look at the colossal dollars
involved. Understand why there is so much interest in keeping up the smokers' persecution,
and the motivation behind the lies about secondhand smoke. See how it affects Canada.
Documentation obtained through the U.S Freedom Of Information Act explains it all. We have
described earlier the anti-smokers industry as a cancer without morality. Now we can
quantify why.
City Hall "Parents" Practice Tough Love in Toronto and
Vancouver - The health paternalists of two major Canadian cities are using different
strategies to gain public acceptance for their smoking bans. Although Toronto seems to
have backed off, it may just be intending to kill its opponents with kindness. - By
Anne MacDiarmid
Civil Disobedience Now! - December
1st, 1996: the Vancouver anti-smokers by-law comes into effect. The most recent attack to
the freedom of choice of Vancouver's smokers comes into effect at midnight today. Now is
the test of fire. Will the Vancouver's smokers and restaurant owners knuckle under once
again? Will the local government claim another victory over liberty? FORCES Canada invites
the restaurants and their patrons to break the law, in the name of personal
rights. Do we have what it takes? - A statement by Gian Turci, president of FORCES
Canada
Cyberspace Addiction: Why Not? - A short
article of the latest and greatest form of "addiction": cyberspace,
now blamed for broken families and other calamities, and already the center of
"studies". Is the grant gravy train beginning to slow down to stop at this
station as well? Will we ever grow up? -- By Gian Turci
Pub Owner Champions Smokers' Rights - A short interview
with Dianne Davies, owner of the Highwayman Pub in
Abbotsford, British Columbia. "Fight back! It's a matter of speaking up. The
people out there who want to smoke in public places have to take the initiative and really
do it." ...Well said Dianne! We hope that many more will find the strength to
voice their opinion, and join the fight for liberties.
FORCES CANADA: four months of smashing activity -- now off for
this year - 1996 year end message from Gian Turci, President of
FORCES Canada.
Diary of a Smoking Trip - Travelling impressions from a
1996 trip to Europe by Gian Turci, President of FORCES Canada
Heil, Health! - What is in store for
us? A clean, orderly world where everyone is expected to live one hundred years, free from
any hazard, in the beatitude of an environment where somebody else has already figured
what's good or bad for you, so you don't have to do it. Statisticians, actuaries,
politicians, doctors and policemen will make sure that you will be protected from
everybody, including yourself! Our children will grow up in a clean environment, purified
from such risky stuff as smoking, exploring, drinking, experimenting, thinking. They will
be taught to "just say no" to any such disgusting propositions.
The Epitome of Stupidity - Another demonstration of the
Canadian government's stupidity, and hypocrisy. The persecution of smokers does not stop
even at the arctic circle! Natives are forced to smoke outside in polar
temperatures to "protect their health", never mind the disgusting
neglect of the state about their social condition.
You should be ASHamed! - The shameful,
hate-filled propaganda of the U.S.-based ASH Organization. A time capsule for Canada and
the rest of the world, illustrating what will happen if the government-backed hate
campaign is not stopped.
Teenage Smoking Like Walking Corpses - This is just one
headline (the tune is all too common) typical of the cheap, alarmist kind of messages sent
by the media (local or national) on the issue of teenage smoking. Of course, the real
issue is cleanly missed! Reflections by Gian Turci.
Open Letter to the Tobacco Companies - by Gian Turci,
president of FORCES Canada. Publicly challenging the tobacco companies to put an end to
the persecution of their only customers - the smokers. They certainly have the power. Do
they have the balls?
The Vancouver Rally - Vancouver
restaurant owners sent a strong message of protest against the city's smoking ban bylaw
this week with a public rally and demonstration at city hall -- and a confrontation inside
council chambers. At issue are revenue and job losses in the wake of Vancouver's draconian
smoking ban. For many restaurant owners, the 100% restaurant smoking ban has meant severe
hardship, as smoking customers vote with their feet.
