SOUL SEARCHING

I n light of the recent developments in the disgusting tobacco saga, I feel that it is necessary to make the point of a situation that is rapidly degenerating into an uncontrollable political regression.

In the United States, it seems quite clear that the "Deal" will go through in a much harsher form than originally proposed, that is, no liability exemption for the tobacco industry except, perhaps, if the rate of teen-age smoking decreases.

It is now clear that the smell of money, that is, the possibility of immense revenues from the looting of smokers, has conquered the Republican-dominated US Congress as well. With the support of Congress the "deal" will go through with the blessing of the tobacco industry, which stands to lose no money at all, for every expense will be on the shoulders of smokers. And since both the tobacco industry and the antis know very well that the antitobacco propaganda campaign will not decrease teens' smoking, but will actually increase it, one can expect that the companies' liability issue is purely academic.

Because the liability exemption will not be there, the lawsuits will continue, adding more revenue for lawyers, and everyone who wants to make a fast big buck by blaming tobacco use for almost any disease conceivable. At the same time, the FDA will regulate tobacco as a drug, and the contents of tobacco will undergo strict regulation. There will be no escape for the Niggers of the 21st century: their decreasing number will support the economy of the same nation that persecutes them. The lower, poorer classes will bear the weight of the upper class.

This manoeuvre, however, will buy precious time for the tobacco industry to divert its investments in more "socially acceptable" fields, like food, beverages, etc. When the transfer is complete, the tobacco industry, for all intents and purposes, will be nationalized, and the bosses of the tobacco industry will keep enjoying a comfortable living.

At the same time, antismokers, lawyers, and press will receive immense amounts of money in order to continue and augment their hate propaganda to a dimension inconceivable even today.

What can smokers expect? Well, let's just say that future politics on smoking will make McCarthy look like a pussycat.

I would say that this is the time when all smokers, and particularly the pro-choice activists, must do a lot of soul-searching. Time to look ugly reality in the face.

Before proceeding, however, it is imperative that we empty ourselves of all illusions and hopes, and look at the situation with cold rationality. It is also important that we stop believing in concepts like "fairness" and "justice", and that we put whatever faith we have in so-called "due process" in the closet.

I feel I must warn the reader that what I am going to state hereinafter may be shocking, and the first reaction may be to dismiss my analysis as "extreme", or "over-reacting". In this case, I invite the reader to compare today's situation with the one that existed just ten years ago, when most of what's happening today would have been sanely dismissed as "ridiculous nonsense", or even as "insane".

First, in this restructuring of our thought process, we must accept the fundamental reality that the people who are promoting antitobacco in its present form are criminals. Therefore, the traditional attachment to, and credibility of, the institutions from which the antismokers usually operate must be seriously reconsidered.

I don't say this lightly, for I have many historical precedents to point. In the thirties, nobody wanted to believe that criminals had risen to power in Germany. After all, Hitler was elected by a cheering -- and morally bankrupt -- population. As Hitler's plans unfolded, nobody inside and outside Germany would accept the reality of the Nazis' criminal agenda.

Like the antismokers, Germany was acting in self-defense, and even during the war, nobody wanted to acknowledge the reality of the concentration camps until it was too late for 6 million Jews. Bring the Lie beyond itself, make reality too absurd to believe, and you'll get away with it. Differently than smokers, antismokers have learned the pertinent lesson of history quite well.

This kind of extreme blindness and denial has not changed today. The Yuppie ruling class, devoid of the knowledge of the high cost of freedom -- thus empty of the moral concerns that are acquired and appreciated only through struggle and suffering -- actually cheers the prospect of a smoke-free, fat-free, drug-free, salt-free, caffeine-free, sugar-free society, starred with helmets, safety belts, warning labels, speed limits and privacy-breaking laws. They are the schizophrenic personification of the paranoid perception of immensely exaggerated, computer-generated risks.

To achieve that end, this morally bankrupt class does not hesitate to trade in personal liberties, and to allow another class of citizens to be oppressed in exchange for immediate gratification and short-term perceived benefits.

The people in government, truly representing this ruling class, have found a formula that allows immense revenue and political support while destroying the fabric of society through the elimination of scientific integrity, through the use of propaganda in schools, the corruption of media and -- even worse -- the corruption of institutions and due process. The change of the law in Florida and British Columbia to accommodate antismoking litigation is a prime example. In these cases, due process has been "adjusted" to prevent any form of valid legal defense by the target, in this case the tobacco industry.

In short, today's moral inversion justifies the elimination of due process, falsification of scientific data, elimination of industries and employment, elimination of personal choice, stigmatization, marginalization and monitoring of citizens, as well as brainwashing of children, in order to achieve goals perceived as desirable.

This lack of concern for morality and disrespect for choice is the earmark of the malefactors in charge of ministries of health, "health" organizations, and even entire governments. As in Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, the same due process that would have put these individuals in jail is perverted and used by the perpetrators to keep themselves out of jail, while persecuting both their intended targets and opposition.

With this in mind, and knowing that as soon as the deal is done hundreds of million of dollars per year will pour into the pockets of intolerance-promoting organizations such as ASSIST, while the press will be fed 500 million smokers' dollars in antitobacco advertisement, we can safely bet that within a couple of years we can expect the unthinkable.

  • It will be impossible for a smokers to find or keep a job.

  • Mandatory and periodic urine/blood samples will be taken to ensure that the subject does not smoke.

  • The hate campaign to condition children to lecture, disrespect, or emotionally blackmail smoking parents will be boosted.

  • Smoking parents will routinely lose the custody of their children above and beyond custody battle cases. Certain medical organizations are already pushing the "child abuse" criminal agenda in Canada and United States.

  • Health officers will have more authority than police.

  • Any voice against the corruption of antitobacco will be silenced and declared illegal.

  • Soviet Union-style propaganda will be all over papers, television, and other media.

  • Violence against smokers will be perpetrated on a large scale, and under-reported by a media eager to get more antitobacco funding. Also, violence will be rationalized and justified by government and "health" organizations on the basis of "self-defense" from second hand smoke.

  • Brown shirt-style enforcement against non-compliant businesses and individuals, including intimidation and physical violence, will be commonplace. Any recourse will be impossible, as local, provincial, state, and federal regulations will be "adapted" to legitimize the "enforcement".

  • Taxation increases exceeding $2.00 a pack is to be expected within three years.

  • Smokers will lose medicare, social security, and welfare benefits.

  • Smoking in any visible area (outside or inside) will be forbidden on the grounds of "indecent exposure", and "child protection".

  • In schools, children will be encouraged to report on parents who smoke, and the state will praise children for their "courage". This is already happening for marijuana use.

  • Smoking in the car will be forbidden everywhere.

  • Rates for car, home, and life insurance for smokers will skyrocket with the excuse of the "increased risk".

  • Smuggling of cigarettes from all over the world will become a major issue, and large amounts of money will be spent in a new "tobacco war" similar to the failing war on drugs, as tobacco-related crime increases exponentially. This pretext will be used to justify further intimidation of smokers.

  • A strong anti-fat campaign will be initiated on grounds similar to the anti-smoking campaign for the purpose of replacing the revenues lost by the decrease in smoking rates due to intimidation, coercion and repression of smokers. Super-production of tax-funded false or distorted "studies" on fat will be initiated, in the same way as junk science has become the backbone of antismoking.

For the smoking citizen, and for the smoking activist, these are times for serious soul-searching. The persecution of smoking will not pass or fade. It is just going to get worse, and when done with tobacco, the health malefactors will proceed with other population targets.

Two choices are available to us:
  • CHOICE NUMBER ONE: if you don't have the guts to stand up and fight not just for the freedom of smoking but for the freedom of choice in general, then quit smoking immediately, adjust your behaviour as required by the health establishment, and pray that you won't be the target of the next health persecution. In short, prepare yourself to abide to the New Social Order increasingly alluded to in political speeches.

  • CHOICE NUMBER TWO: if you care about your dignity, and the future of your children as free thinkingbeings, then this is the time to fight. But it is important to understand who and what you fight. This is not fighting City Hall. This is fighting a well-rooted and institutionalized corruption that is coated with enough righteousness and false information to justify repression and violence to achieve its ends of looting and control. Believe it -- letters to the Editor or to your local government representatives will be a waste of time and effort, for you will be ignored at best.
Fighting antitobacco today means being ready to disobey local or federal law to set an example for fellow citizens, and risk the consequences. It means to be the object of intimidation, raids in your organizations, perhaps even violence. It means possibly losing your job, and having to fight to keep your children close to you. It means, if you have small children, to shiver each time somebody knocks at your door -- is it the all-mighty Health Officer who comes to take my kids away? It may mean even going to prison.

It also means being ready to answer in kind -- threat to threat, and being ready to use violence in self- defense -- an eye for an eye. In short, it means that the mission is to bring the message of liberty and truth door to door, with any means available and without counting on the media, while acting within a structured and organized resistance, that often must be underground, and above and beyond personal agendas and personal initiatives.

Fighting antitobacco does not mean simply pushing back the opponent. That would be ineffective, for the fanatical antis will forever come back to attack. The goal of fighting antitobacco must be on one hand the total destruction of the antitobacco fanatics, and especially the punishment through indictment and incarceration of the individuals responsible for falsification of scientific data, racketeering, and incitement to intolerance. On the other hand, legal safeguards have to be built so as to insure that abominable phenomena such as antitobacco can never happen again. In the U.S.A., a sweeping reform of the tort law would be an excellent place to start from.

It is not easy to fight state criminals who have at their disposal endless resources. And, while somebody may now dismiss me as a lunatic, it is indisputable that the more the antismoking cancer takes hold, the greater the force that will be required to eradicate it. If you don't feel you have what it takes, then you should go back to choice number one, for the brutality of the upcoming repression may give you a shocking reminder of who is in charge.

Fascism only communicates through the language of force, and rationalization of repression and violence.

Integrity and truth mean nothing, while justice and due process are only filled with empty rhetoric.

If you think that it is not worth risking so much for the "vice" of smoking, then accept the fact that you are surrendering the vice of freedom.
