IT'S THE MARKETS, STUPID
- When the American Medical Association joins with the University of California to discuss
personal behavior, the smart folks had better head for the hills. Last month at a Los
Angeles seminar, sponsored by the AMA, the "facts" were flying fast and furious
as the dire, and newly discovered, hazard of mass obesity moved to the center stage of
societal control. Hysterical prognostications of hundreds of thousands done in by
overeating along with massive costs to society provided the window dressing to the actual
purpose of the confab: A new pharmaceutical product can save us all from ourselves and
enrich the drug industry at the same time. The hormone leptin can melt the pounds away.
The only downside is that it must be injected and it must be taken on a lifetime basis.
Sound familiar? Concoct a serious problem from thin air, commission a myriad of studies
from special interest goons and, Presto!, an aggressively peddled product from the
pharmaceutical industry. We've been here before.
TREAT EATERS LIKE
SMOKERS - "We could legislate special fat sections in restaurants,
airliners and other places so that the obese could be provided with seating that meets
their safety needs, as well as separate them from those of normal weight whose space they
now overtake on many occasions."
MAKE INDIVIDUALS MORE
RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR HEALTH - "Is it time to consider a health-care
competency exam that would require the consumer to be a responsible partner in health
maintenance? After all, you can't drive a car without passing a test demonstrating some
knowledge and the ability to drive. Yet we, in effect, issue lifetime health-care licenses
through health insurance, Medicare and Medicaid without any requirement of knowledge about
health. Are we placing all our bets for the health of our nation on the prospects of
miracle drugs and treatments to provide antidotes for self destructive behaviors?"
-- What about prison terms for those who will not go along? It seems the logical
next step to ensure compliance!
 WHAT'S NEXT? SECOND-HAND FAT?
- In response to the latest piece of political propaganda/junk science published by JAMA
(below), a FORCES reader (who wishes to remain anonymous -- thus we are using the
pseudonym "The Junk Risk Ranger") has sent us this great commentary on
the impending persecution by the health cartel against yet another segment of the
population. We recommend that our readers really ponder this beautiful piece, for the same
political methodology, and the same statistical and scientific frauds widely used by the
health cartel for tobacco are already applied to its next victims -- and the industries
that "victimize them", of course (that's where the money is!).
WILL
WE STILL EAT MEAT? Maybe not, if we wake up to what the mass production of animal flesh is
doing to our health -- and the planet's - We link to the Junkman for yet another piece of garbage propaganda,
this time specifically against red meat.
Though we are professionals in the fight against this
kind of garbage, we cannot help but wondering and being disgusted about the total sickness
on "health" -- sickness that is spreading like a cancer, apparently (just
apparently...) obliterating any logic and common sense. Mankind has eaten and raised
cattle since the beginning of time, and the planet was never destroyed. Eating meat is
part of human needs and, in the proper dietetic balance, it improves and sustains health.
Perhaps it is good that we are always disgusted by the health crusaders: it is our
indicator that mental disease has not set in.
Of course we will still eat red meat. As a matter of
fact, it is lunch time out here, and a nice, "cooked-rare" steak is waiting for
us on the table, complete with eggs, some wine, coffee, sweeties, and a delicious
cigarette to top it all up while enjoying living... and burping in the face
of the health cartel!
LAYING THE "SCIENTIFIC"
FOUNDATIONS TO RATIONALIZE TAXATION AND PERSECUTION OF EATERS - CALORIC
IMBALANCE AND PUBLIC HEALTH POLICY - JAMA, political publisher of all junk
science, could not miss the opportunity to publish this one:
"Based on the study by Allison and colleagues,
only smoking exceeds obesity in its contribution to total mortality rates in the United
States. A recent estimate suggesting that the direct and indirect costs of obesity in the
United States approximated 10% of the national health care budget underscores why the
nation can no longer afford to ignore obesity as a major medical problem."
Strange. Below in this page obesity is responsible for
1.3 million deaths, though otherwise in this page the figure 300,000 is mentioned. Since mortality figures associated with smoking are pure
junk science, it is not surprising to see the same kind of junk science methodology
applied to obesity. But the last sentence is what must make all fat persons (and any
industry producing fat) tremble in their boots: "
the nation can no longer
afford to ignore obesity as a major medical problem."
The health medical Mafia has set the foundation for the
next major-scale round of lawsuits, discrimination, and children mind conditioning. Safely
entrenched and protected by a diseased establishment, the health criminals have fat
targets in the crosshair of their socially destructive weapons - and there are about as
many fatsos as there smokers in the US.
Another endless supply of taxation, hate and
persecution has just started in America.
BURGERS BEAT OUT
BROCCOLI IN STATE HEALTH SURVEY - "It's not good news," said
professor Gail Harrison, director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition. "We're
talking about risk of cancer . . . risk of heart disease." ... "If what you're
eating is increasing your risk for breast cancer 40 years from now or from an early heart
attack and you're a teenage boy," she said, "it's much harder . . . to see the
reason for a change in behavior." Great... what about 60 years
from now? No more comments. Stupidity speaks for itself.
MORE THAN FAT, WAY MORE THAN EVEN TOBACCO...
"OUR EPIDEMIC IS BIGGER THAN YOURS!"
1.3 MILLION DEAD, 61 BILLION DOLLARS
EACH YEAR -- CONSERVATIVELY, OF COURSE!
PHYSICIANS ADVISE FEDS TO GO AFTER
`BIG MEAT' NEXT
WARNING: Red meat beats smoking 3 to 1 and then some! The 300,000
fat-related [virtual] deaths are nothing, and the 400,000 "tobacco-related"
[virtual] deaths are chicken feed also. Here come red meat-related [virtual] deaths
with a whopping corpses. One can actually feel
the power of the new Pentium processors! Are the fat-related deaths intertwined with red
meat consumption? Who knows!
The "health insanity" is running amok, and
this is nothing new. But the rapid succession of computer-generated epidemics clearly
indicates that the orgy of hysteria and frauds is reaching an explosive climax.
"A study conducted by PCRM and published in
Preventive Medicine in 1995 calculated that meat consumption is directly responsible for
as much as $61 billion in annual U.S. medical costs. The conservative study looked at just
seven health problems linked to meat consumption, including heart disease, cancer, and
diabetes."
"An estimated 1.3 million Americans die of cancer,
heart disease, and other heavily-meat related causes each year"
THE CASE AGAINST FAT BUILDS - LITTLE
EXERCISE, LOTS OF JUNK FOOD 8-YEAR STATE STUDY WARNS OF INCREASE IN LONG-TERM HEALTH
PROBLEMS - "And it seems that the advertising people are doing their
jobs quite well." Junk Food pushers deviously manipulate the public. "...blithely
admit they can't help it because they are coerced by clever TV ads pushing high-calorie
snacks..." Overeaters are helpless children who are not responsible and must be
protected by the state.
FAT-FOOD TAX URGED IN WAR
ON OBESITY, US FLAB VIEWED AS 'TICKING BOMB' - Hey, folks, this is [sad] fun!
Read this:
"More than 20 percent of children are
overweight, a number that has doubled in recent decades." ... "Extra pounds are
more than unsightly. They contribute to deaths each year [...they've got to twitch that figure, though. Smokers
are still ahead with 400,000!]. The annual cost of treating health problems related to
obesity has been estimated at $100 billion." ... "While we have this two-day
meeting, 1,800 people will be dead from problems related to obesity." ... "This
is a national emergency."
' The nation's top doctor, Surgeon General David
Satcher, is already convinced. "Obesity is a major public health problem in this
country and one that deserves much more attention than it receives." '
Yo-o-o! Go get the fatsos, health Nazis, go for
those fat grants! A whole new horizon of loot and fortune is before you in
America, the land of opportunity. Lawyers, sharpen your knives: the food industry is a
hell of a lot richer than the tobacco industry is -- and it can certainly be demonstrated
that the food industry was AWARE of the dangers, but it continued to advertise fat
delivery devices. Fatsos of America, shape up or ship out, the health cartel
is coming for YOU!
...What did you mean when you said you agreed that
smokers should be kicked out of buildings?
WAGING WAR ON FAT
- Excellent article by Joel Miller (WorldNet Daily) about the latest avalanche of lies,
falsifications and persecution ready to roll down the hill: the Fat Wars. The same
pharmaceutical industry, the same breed of persecutors and looters that got rich with lies
on tobacco is ready to get richer by stigmatizing yet another category of people who
deserve contempt: the Fatsos. FORCES has predicted this since 1996. We don't have a
crystal ball: we simply are very familiar with the logic of fascism which, contrary to
popular belief, is not a political credo, but a mental condition.
' Like Moses giving the children of Israel their
dietary laws, the modern health experts with all their Levitical authority are in the
business of proscribing the proper provision for our palates. As they see it, however, in
addition to pigs and oysters being "unclean," now Twinkies, doughnuts, and
cheese are not so kosher -- in fact, they're "toxic," to use Yale psychology
professor Kelly Brownell's word. '
' Taking a hint from all the hullabaloo over
tobacco, some fat warriors also advocate the regulation of junk-food advertising. I
suppose, as Joe Camel goes, so goes Chester Cheetah, cartoon mascot for fat-laden Cheetos.
The Trix Rabbit and Tony the Tiger may also find themselves in the unemployment line, as
sugar-heavy cereals are considered bad-news victuals. '
OBESITY HEALTH CARE COSTS US
MORE THAN $200 BILLION ANNUALLY - This is the header of this article by
Reuters Health, the official junk science press agency.
No more than a few days ago we linked to
"EMPLOYERS FOCUS ON WEIGHT AS WORKPLACE HEALTH ISSUE" (below). In it, the 99.2
billion figure is quoted. As expected, new "estimates" and new junk science are
quickly succeeding.
Following the identical statistical fraud pattern
applied to tobacco, the health cartel is well on its way to target fat people as the next
money making persecution. Feeling that the tobacco issue is almost wrapped up in the US
(wrong), the cartel is making sure that the pay checks of its operatives do not dry up.
Here comes the "epidemic," "cost to
society," "risks," "links" - and all the rest of the health scare
garbage us smokers are already the targets of. Since the cartel now works on a well-tested
criminal and political methodology, however, a much faster pace of junk data fabrication
and ensuing persecution of eaters is to be expected.
EMPLOYERS
FOCUS ON WEIGHT AS WORKPLACE HEALTH ISSUE - Here we go. $99.5 Billion in
1995. ' "It is clearly an epidemic," said Nancy Chockley, president of the
National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation, a research and lobbying group
financed by health plans and government grants.'
Haven't we heard this before? State-financed health fascism at work again.
"A healthy citizen is an asset to the state." "Those who do not care to be
healthy are enemies of the state, and deserve punishment." Guess who spoke these
words in the first half of the 20th century.
Fat is next. We can't wait to see how the anti-smoker tactics are brought
into play. This persecution could get really ugly, for smokers can become closet smokers
and hide, but fat people cannot even hide. This makes eaters even easier targets than
smokers.
At first, "leaning out" will be an "encouraged option"
as were quit-smoking programs in the past. Soon, those who "do not comply" will
be branded as anti-social, cost-to-society individuals, worthy of social marginalization.
Junk science, in the meantime, will mass-produce epidemiological "associations"
creating "links" with disease, behavior,
moral, and so on, while grant-fuelled Ph.D.s will babble about statistics and costs to
society with authoritative arrogance, and enjoy full attention by the media.
So now those fat antismokers who support the persecution of tobacco
users, and believe in the junk science about it, are themselves about to have a taste of
their own medicine. What goes around comes around.
FORCES proposes that John Banzaff of ASH, fatty par excellence,
be the first example to be set by the Motherland for disciplinary action.
A few more observations, if we may. The article does not mention that
last year the threshold for obesity was reduced to prepare the grounds for the
new persecution.
Also, notice how the word "companies" seems to have replaced the
word "society," and how, once again, the will and the choice of the targets is
not even taken into consideration; how only those who agree with this new conditioning are
given voice by the media. Those who like to eat, like those who like to smoke, will no
longer be given a dissenting voice, for they are no longer allowed to like themselves as
they are. Thus their opinion does not matter, anyway.
THE FAT TAX
- Is it really such a crazy idea? You knew tobacco heavies were getting desperate
when they seized on this forgettable quotation, spoken by a Yale professor to the
second-string paper in Boston: "To me, there is no difference between Ronald McDonald
and Joe Camel." Within a week, the quote has found its way into high-decibel opinion
columns across the country, and it eventually screeched its way into a prophetic Wall
Street Journal editorial entitled "Who's Next?" "First, public health
groups will determine that hamburgers cause cancer and heart disease," the
editorialists warned. "The trial lawyers will begin class actions on behalf of adults
who blame their illness on ... special sauce." Before we know it, poor Ronald
McDonald will be doing time for peddling poison to kids, and the rest of us will be
reduced to cutting out contraband photos of smoking starlets with those neon-orange safety
scissors they hand out in kindergarten.
EXPERTS SAY FAT
RIVALS SMOKING AS HEALTH THREAT - "This is a pandemic, probably one
of the top five public health problems in the world. Scientists are already beginning to
wonder whether it will be worse than smoking,'' Dr. Philip James told reporters at
the start of the Eighth International Congress on Obesity, which began on Monday.
WEIGHT STUDY TAINTED?
- A controversial study concluding overweight people cost employers billions of dollars in
sick time and insurance coverage has come under attack as being a tool of a diet-drug
company. Critics also fear that the study, released earlier this month, will boost
workplace discrimination.
