AN EXAMPLE OF MORAL INVERSION
These are times of moral inversion. The sociological process that make heros out of villains is both fascinating and terrifying. Let's take the case of Stanton Glantz, the famous University of California "professor" responsible for so much of smokers' grief and loss of liberties. His devastating study on the lack of economic consequences of smoking bans for the hospitality industry was promoted by all health nazis to eliminate opposition, and implement the bans. Later, thanks to the National Smokers Alliance, his study has been proven flawed. With his shoulders against the wall, Glantz admitted to the "flaw", but the damage was done. It is our opinion that the "flaw" of Stanton Glantz was quite intentional. Now under attack, Glantz risks serious legal consequences. But the rabidly antismoking San Francisco Chronicle, while reporting the news, portrays Glantz as a respectable, eccentric professor of medicine (he is actually a mechanical engineer) who is under attack by the sinister Tobacco Lords.
As far as we are concerned, we are cheering Mr. Glantz, too. Hopefully, all the way to the jail doors.
