FORCES READER FIGHTS HYPOCRISY IN WINNIPEG
CIGAR FUND-RAISER HYPOCRITICAL
This is in response to the front page story Murray gets star treatment(Winnipeg Free Press, July30). So its
perfectly alright for Coun.Glen Murray, who has an illustrious history of actively supporting every draconian
anti-smoking bylaw, to host a fund-raiser where people are actively smoking cigars.
Perhaps Coun.Murray could explain his breathtaking hypocrisy to the bleeding people in wheelchairs, the
amputees, and the very sick who are callously thrown out in-50 cold at our city's hospitals.
It's OK for rich people to smoke cigars at a $100 fund raiser, but using city bylaws supported and voted for
by Coun Glen Murray, hundreds of thousands of Winnipegers are thrown out in the freezing cold to have a
cigarette.
As reported in the Free Press recently, the infamous U.S.Environmental Protection Agency study on second hand
smoke that has been used to justify draconian anti-smoking bylaws, was thrown out of federal court in a 92 page
decision. The decision states what so many critics of the second-hand smoke debate have been saying for
years, that the entire EPA study was a complete political document with no scientific validity, concocted to
impose draconian anti-smoking agendas.
There is nothing in known scientific literature that remotely justifies the anti-smoking policies imposed
on the citizens of Winnipeg.
