SPECIAL:

THE LIE, CONTRADICTION, AND FRAUD OF THE DAY ALL IN ONE ARTICLE!

June 11, 1999

Quote from AP article, June 10, 1999:

"Smokers trying to kick the habit can claim some costs as medical expenses on income tax returns under a decision Thursday by the Internal Revenue Service that reverses a 20-year-old agency position."

The article explains how it is now possible to deduct smoking cessation expenditures (but not patches garbage), but only if the quit-smoking expenses reach the 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income in order to qualify as an itemized deduction.

Very nice political cheat, IRS: Clinton will be very pleased... very few people spend US$2,250 (based on an adjusted gross income of US $30,000) in smoking-cessation if the smoking "cessation" garbage devices are excluded!

But this is not even the best of it. Here is the juicy part:

THE LIE OF THE DAY

``What the research of the last decade has documented is that [smoking] is one of the most powerful addictions that a person can succumb to'' ... ``It's not just some bad habit. It's a dangerous, chronic disease.''

(Dr. Michael Fiore, director of the Center for Tobacco Research and Prevention at the University of Wisconsin).

THE FACTS: Doctor Fiore obviously and selectively does not know about heroin and the like, nor he knows about the true, medical definition of addiction.

But he's got to pay his "mortgage..." His seat in the University of Wisconsin is paid by the pharmaceutical industry.

THE CONTRADICTION OF THE DAY

``Nicotine, a substance common to all forms of tobacco, is a powerfully addictive drug.''

(United States IRS. All of a sudden, an expert in medical matters)

THE FACTS: Nobody attacks the pharmaceutical industry for selling pure nicotine.

THE FRAUD OF THE DAY

``A strong causal link exists between smoking and several diseases,''

(United States IRS)

THE FACTS: Absolutely no CAUSALITY has ever been proven between smoking and ANY of the diseases attributed to it. This is because of the hundreds, even thousands of interacting confounding factors occurring during the life of an individual.

This makes impossible to isolate smoking as cause of disease. Any association between smoking comes from statistics and meta-analysis of statistical studies. THERE IS NO PROOF. And the anti-tobacco cartel knows it.
