Articles from Smokers Fighting Discrimination
ANNOUNCEMENT FOR TEXANSI live in the greater Houston area. One of the suburbs to the east of here, Baytown has proposed a smoking ban in the workplace, a ban in restaurants without separate ventilation systems between smoking and non-smoking areas. In the city of Houston there was a proposed ordinance to do almost the same thing, but it has been on hold since Aug 1997 because of personal problems (indictments) against some council members. If the ordinance is passed in Baytown, its will give momentum to the antis in Houston. The city council will meet to announce a revised ordinance On Jan. 28th (Revised from a total ban to one of separate ventilation), and a final vote will be cast on Feb 11th. I will attend both meetings and present the legal document by Federal Judge Osteen striking down the EPA's report on passive smoking and also Congressmen Bliley's 1993 report "EPA and Environmental Tobacco Smoke: Science or Politics?" Please write a letter or make a phone call to the mayor and council and express your opinion.
