You have a right to know who the top 40 big spenders are in the Senate.
A lot of people talk about big government Liberals, but rarely do you hear anyone associate the allegation with a name or a face - this Web Page attempts to change that. Out of 100 members in the Senate, the list of big spenders is comprised almost exclusively of Democrats, and there's no excuse for it. It was Senator Everett Dirksen (R-IL) who said "A billion here, a billion there --- pretty soon it adds up to real money" - but today's Liberal Democrats just don't get it. Our national debt is over $5 trillion, and most people can't even comprehend how much money that is. If you started a business when Christ was born and lost $1 million per day, you would have to continue losing $1 million per day until the year 2808 before you lost $1 trillion. You would have to lose $1 million per day until the year 14,044 to lose $5 trillion. This senselessness must stop. Our national debt has increased from $4 trillion to over $5 trillion just from 1992 to 1996. Interest on the debt is now the third largest expenditure in all of government.
Now, with the kind assistance of the National Taxpayers Union - I have compiled a list of the Top 40 Big Spenders in the Senate, so that you know who these people are. Thirty-five of these Senators are Liberal Democrats. Out of the 100 Senators serving the 104th Congress, no Democrats voted for a net decrease in spending. It appears as though the days of Conservative Democrats are behind us.
The following list represents the net spending increases voted for by the top 40 big spending Senators during the 104th Congress, through July 18, 1996. All net spending increases are in billions of dollars.
If you had a business that lost $1 million per year, you would have to continue losing $1 million per year for 1000 years before you lost $1 billion.
