How many more people are going to lose their jobs, how many more businesses close before common sense will prevail? Now hard working business people are being served letters from the CRD law firm advising them that the solicitors will be seeking permission to take civil injunctive action against them, which could result in businesses being ordered closed and honest hardworking people facing jail terms. And for what, letting people enjoy the pleasure of a legal substance. A legal substance that results in our government collecting over 450 million dollars in yearly taxes. I thought politicians were elected to help people, not jail people and force people to lose their businesses, or force people on to U.I.C. or welfare. The 60/40 ratio worked fine in the hospitality sector, people were working, paying taxes and not facing the stress this bylaw has created. What is happening now is that no non-smoking sections are available in those of us that are defining this bylaw, and we are not a few as Dr. Stanwick and Dianne Stevenson would have you believe. I would put a non-smoking section back in the Esquimalt Inn within an hour of this bylaw being either rescinded or enforcement suspended until a common sense solution can be found. W.C.B. (Workers Compensation Board) is looking at the ventilation solution and I think the CRD should also look at this option. I am always available to discuss a solution to this matter if you wish to phone me or answer any questions you may have. Yours Truly, (signed) Brian Mayzes |
