Recently, a Winnipeg physician decided to publicly announce that he will not treat smokers - for any reason - and has posted a notice in his clinic telling smokers to "Butt out by March 1st." Warren Klass, President of FORCES Manitoba, comments. |

January 2002 If you are a smoker in Manitoba, it isn't a happy new year. Winnipeg is implementing their version of a smoking ban, and a medical doctor in this City has no hesitation in publicly declaring that smokers are not 'worthy' of treatment in his opinion. No doubt Dr. Frederick Ross does this with the hope that others will emulate his departure from the Hypocratic Oath to further the smokefree agenda.Smokers - FIGHT BACKFor far too long smokers have simply bowed to whatever social engineering tactics have been pushed in the name of 'health' by anti-smokers. Approximately 25% of the population of this Country choose to use a legal product, and through taxation on that product they contribute substantially to the support of a medical system that now appears to sanction denying them treatment. In the absence of a terrorist attack, or need by family members or friends, you can fight back by refusing to: . |

In short, cease co-operation with a profession who allows members to withdraw services if they decide they don't like the way you live. Under Canada's socialized health care system, there are no alternatives to treatment. Unless those who presume to play God are prevented from imposing their dictates on the population in this manner, be prepared to live your life the way you are told to by clinical authorities. Smokers will not be the last group singled out for 'lifestyle correction' if this inversion of medicine is permitted. Winnipeg Dr. Frederick Ross has been quoted as
saying, This modern day self -directed medical mandate to kill by refusing treatment to smokers is not unique to Canada. Australia has imposed this death sentence for 'disobedience' before. Even Nazi Germany's anti-smoking campaign didn't go this far. I urge those of you from other countries who are reading this message to examine closely the direction medicine is taking there and act upon your observations accordingly. For the time being, until the ethics and suitability for the profession of those who place more importance on an agenda than patient care is clarified, it's just as well that patients are served notice of a Dr.'s priority. Placing your treatment in the hands of someone who thinks this way would definitely not be a wise move. The need to react strongly in opposition to this proposed new social hierarchy, and redefinition of medical parametres, can't be overstated. Warren Klass, President |
