Dateline - Niagara Falls, Ontario

January 30 - The theme of today's submission is that if you want to stop and reverse the madness overtaking many parts of Canada-go vote. In two Ontario towns and one in Northern Canada, people’s votes have made a difference.

A Forces Canada reader from Niagara Falls sent me a note to inform me that the Niagara Falls council voted unanimously to ask the region to have another look at the 100% no-smoking bylaw.

This action did not come because City Council had some kind of epiphany. It came because voters in Niagara Falls voted out the long-standing mayor and city councilors who voted for this jobs and business killer.

As to be expected the anti-smoking nuts are not taking this without a fight. Another loyal Forces Canada reader sent me an article from the St. Catherine Standard that claims the anti-smoking nuts are bringing in James Repace, an alarmist Physicist from the discredited E.P.A. report to claim ventilation systems don't control second-hand smoke. Ventilation systems can take out poison gas but not second-hand smoke. To see how utterly ridiculous this most recent lie is, see the Forces evidence archives on modern ventilation systems.

Dateline - West Nippising, Ontario

Like Niagara Falls, the North Bay Nugget is reporting that city council in West Nippising is willing to revisit the anti-smoking bylaw.

As with Niagara Falls, it took an election to cause a new epiphany. Newly elected city councilors: Paul Finley,Yvon Marleau, and John Dobbs are the leaders in re-opening the issue.

Lets make it our mission to prove to politicians coast to coast that anti-smoking activism can be very harmful to electoral health.

Dateline - Sudbury, Ontario

January 30 - At the end of last year I commented on an episode of Southpark that a really nice guy taped for me. The kids of Southpark were compelled to sit through another moronic anti-smoking lecture and naturally started smoking. I showed it to my 14 year old kids and they told me the episode was exactly what goes on in their school.

In one of the most unintentionally funny stories I've seen in some time, The Sudbury Star is reporting on kids scoffing at the anti-smoking messages bombarding schools. I don't know whether art imitates life or life imitates art, but the whole article reads like it was taken verbatim out of Southpark.

The kids are scoffing, ridiculing, and tuning out the anti-smoking message (can you blame them? If Big Tobacco had hired these PARASITES to get kids to smoke, they couldn't have done a better job). So what do the anti-smoking nuts do? Get other kids to lie to the kids.

Keep in mind that this is taking place in Sudbury, Ontario. Nickel country. Inco (International Nickel) has one of the world's biggest nickel mines in Sudbury, with the accompanying pollution. Naturally, every health problem is blamed on second-hand smoke.

Here are some samples from 14 year old kids: "My Mom smoked while she was pregnant. Now I've got severe asthma. "Sonny, my mom smoked while she was pregnant with me and I have severe asthma too. But my mom also smoked while pregnant with my 3 siblings and none of them have asthma. Co-incidence is not proof of causation. There are thousands of causes of asthma. Cigarette smoke ain't one of them.

Asthma is an extreme reaction to allergens. Nickel fumes can cause asthma. Cigarette smoke cannot, for the very good reason that tobacco smoke contains no known, documented allergens. As far back as 1979 the U.S. Surgeon General wrote: "Evidence that tobacco smoke is antigenic in man, however, is meager and controversial."(1979 Report of the Surgeon General,p.10-9)You can look through the Forces evidence archives to see when hypochondriacs claim to be "allergic" to tobacco smoke, its often something
else, like a cat.

The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) recently reported that 30% of asthmatics are smokers. All 30% were asthmatics long before they were smokers. If cigarette smoke did contain allergens, how is it possible for millions of asthmatics, including myself, to be smokers?

Here is the exact wording of a ruling by a U.S. Federal Judge "VACATING" (null and void) these claims after going through vast epidemiological evidence:

"ETS exposure is a risk factor for new cases of asthma in children who have not previously displayed symptoms. "VACATED (null and void) "ETS exposure is casually associated with additional episodes and increased severity of symptoms in children with asthma." Vacated (null and void)

Here is what the Sudbury Star quotes 14 year old Cindy Eichler telling other 14 year olds: "I also have asthma and I'm seriously affected by second-hand smoke. "How about telling your fellow students, Cindy, how Sudbury's fumes from the nickel mine, or the thousands of other potential allergens affect your asthma.

I certainly am not blaming a gullible 14 year old kid. I am blaming a group of liars and PARASITES for exploiting and brainwashing naive trusting kids.

Yet another 14 year old had this to say: "I'm an ex-cancer patient. I have a high risk of developing secondary cancer from second-hand smoke."

Is there anything more sickening than adults exploiting gullible kids to further their agenda? This is really the evil face of the Liberal Party's $500 million dollar a year liar and PARASITE Industry.

By the way you cannot get cancer from second-hand smoke-but you certainly can from Sudbury's pollution.

Dateline - Kingston, Ontario

January 30 - Tuesday's Kingston Whig-Standard detailed the plight of Larry Pomeroy, the owner of Larry's Pit Stop the first bar to be charged with violating Kingston's smoking ban.

According to the account from the Whig-Standard, a patron was smoking in the bar. Mr. Pomeroy asked him to put it out. The patron refused. The smoking police entered the bar. Mr. Pomeroy asked the smoking police to tell the patron to put out his cigarette. The smoking police said "it wasn't their job. "The smoking police then handed Mr. .Pomeroy a $235 ticket which he promises to fight in court.

Mr. Pomeroy told the Whig-Standard that if he or other hospitality owners forcibly attempt to stop someone for smoking, they can be charged with assault.

By the way, business is down 40% at Larry's Pit Stop since the smoking ban was imposed. One employee has already been laid off and another is on reduced hours.

Dateline - Barrie, Ontario

The Barrie Advance is reporting on the most joyless union since the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact The Hitler-Stalin Non-Aggression Pact that started WW II). It seems Dolton's PARASITES (Simcoe County District Health Unit) are teaming up with Big Pharma (Pfizer Canada) to launch a new contest. Quit smoking and enter a draw to win a Mini-Cooper or a Toshiba Home Theater.

For those of you unaware Pfizer, the maker of Viagra obviously plans to diversify into the lucrative stop-smoking snake oil. Pfizer has the third highest market capitalization about $500 Billion U.S) of any stock on the New York Stock Exchange, behind only General Electric and Microsoft.

There's gold in them thar pills!

Dateline - Yellowknife, N.W.T

January 30 - Finally a story not from Ontario! CBC North is reporting on another rousing success from the Liberal Party's $500 million a year PARASITE INDUSTRY.

Here is the opening line from a CBC North story: "Years of anti-smoking propaganda doesn't seem to be having an effect on teens in the N.W.T. as a new survey of young people has found more than a quarter of them smoke."

The story only gets better. It seems that 42% of teens between 15-17 are smokers. These numbers are unchanged since 1999 despite the propaganda barrage that doubles as Liberal Party patronage and pork barreling in the N.W.T.

Also from Yellowknife, comes the story from CBC North that profiled the plight of McKenzie Lounge. According to manager Trevor Glawach, business has dropped 80% since the smoking ban was imposed.

CBC North has also reported that White Horse City Council is looking to modify its smoking ban. As with Ontario, this sudden epiphany did not come out of the blue. It is a direct result of smokers going to the polls and defeating pro-smoking ban councilors.

To the Readers of Forces Canada: I just managed to re-activate my main e-mail Account, warren.klass@3web.net on Saturday night. There were about 750 e-mails waiting for me. About 350 were related to the smoking issue. It will take me days if not weeks to get caught up. So please understand if it takes me some time to either respond to what you wrote or what was forwarded for inclusion in Forces Canada. Right now I'm swamped.

Dateline - Drayton Valley, Alberta

January 27 - A whole bunch of you e-mailed me the story of Drayton Valley turning down a complete smoking ban. The Drayton Valley Review reported that by a 5-2 vote, Drayton Valley said no to a smoking ban.

Dateline - Ottawa, Ontario

January 27 - Over the Christmas break a number of you sent me articles from the University of Ottawa's student newspaper, The Fulcrum. The topic was naturally the proposal to ban smoking on campus.

I sent the Fulcrum a detailed response, that as I recall was meticulously documented to a metaphysical certainty, that pointed out that the Fulcrum sounded like Hitler Youth on this topic. I never heard from the Fulcrum, nor was I ever called for a confirmation. I did however receive an e-mail from a coward who refused to sign his or her name. I am going to reproduce it exactly as written the correspondent never bothered to use spell check).

"About your article in the Fulcrum Hi,

Comparing my university and my government to Hitler's Nazi Regim (sic) is not only offensive but insulting to our great nation, and also to those who suffered in the ovens...Bottom line you have a right to your ideas...and I respect them but you could afford to not use such extreme compairisons (sic).  Concerned Citizens For Truth"

Well Concerned Citizens For Truth, in the words of 19th Century Prussian diplomat, Leopold Von Ranke, here is "history as it really was."

Hitler and Nazi Germany were not JUST about cattle cars, death camps, and ovens. There was so much more. Hitler was a real 90s kind of guy.

Besides his anti-smoking campaign, Hitler championed gun control, a PETA like fetish for animal rights, organics, (where possible organic substances were substituted for chemicals in everything from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics. Inmates at Dachau were for example forced to make organic honey), a real GREEN ENVIRONMENTALIST. Lead, Zinc and Cadium were banned where possible. DDT was first banned in Nazi Germany in the 1930s.Zyclon-B was originally developed as a replacement and later used in the Gas Chambers. There was a campaign against alcohol consumption. What you eat was "not a private matter. "There was a huge campaign against "obesity".

The overall theme of Nazi Germany encapsulated in the Hitler Youth slogan was: "You Have A Duty To Be Healthy. "The role of the state as Hitler saw it was not to protect people's freedom, but rather tell the people not to smoke or drink, what to eat and to exercise for optimum health.

The role of the Medical community changed under Hitler. Doctors were no longer there to treat the sick, but to nag patients to change life-style to "Prevent disease. "The irony was that not much disease was prevented because as historians meticulously documented, most disease is etiological, not related to lifestyle.

Why did Hitler opt for a "preventive "rather than a "curative" model. It was cheaper he thought to prevent disease than cure it. Hitler was a real cost-benefit kind of guy.

Every one of Hitler's policies was sold to the German people as either a Health or Safety measure. For example banning smoking in Jewish owned restaurants in the 1930s was a "Health Measure. "it also wiped out the Jewish owned hospitality industry in Germany). Gun Control was sold as a crime prevention measure. Banning all private guns also meant that there could never be an internal revolt against Hitler.

Canada obviously does not throw people in cattle cars for deportation to death camps, but Canada has engaged in anti-smoking policies that are virtually indistinguishable from Nazi Germany. Here is the cornerstone of Hitler's anti-smoking campaign: huge tobacco taxes, draconian indoor smoking restrictions, moronic propaganda campaigns, endless lies about second-hand smoke, a huge expensive PARASITIC bureaucracy to co-ordinate anti-smoking policy, the criminalization of youth smoking, banning advertising of tobacco, banning unsupervised vending machines, etc.

Does that sound a bit like what's gone on in Canada for the past 10 years under the Liberal Party, or is that a spurious comparison? Penn State historian Robert Proctor, the world's foremost historian on Nazi Medicine and Science-and a non-smoker by the way-called Hitler's anti-smoking campaign: "in some sense just as fascist as Yellow Stars and Death Camps."

The practice of throwing bleeding people in wheelchairs or on stretchers outside of hospitals in the freezing cold for a cigarette did not originate in Canada in the 90s.This was first done in Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

Thus to Concerned Citizens For Truth-if the Jackboot fits, wear it.

Dateline - London, Ontario

January 27 - The London Free Press has reported that the Ontario Hospitality Industry has asked the Ontario government for $500 million in compensation because of the smoking bans. The London Free Press reports a 10% loss in Ontario beer sales in Ontario. This will come as no surprise to the unlucky shareholders of Molson's whose shares recently tanked.

The London Free Press conservatively puts the cost of an Ontario smoking ban at $180 million a year. The Free Press reported that numerous London bars and bingo halls have closed because of the smoking ban.

The Free Press profiled the plight of Richmond Tavern owner Marc Dencevl who claims daytime business is down 50%,and nighttime business is down 20% since the smoking ban was imposed in July.

To the regular readers of Forces Canada in London, please send me an e-mail as I lost your address in my computer crash. Please don't expect a reply for a few days at least as I am swamped with hundreds of e-mails to go through.

Dateline - Orilla, Ontario

January 27 - The Sundial Hotel which was opened in 1962,has closed throwing 48 out of work. The cause for the closure according to the Orilla Packet&Times is SARS, BSE, etc.

By a massive co-incidence it seems that business just happen to decline by 30%since the smoking ban was imposed. A Forces Canada reader from the area assures me that it was the smoking ban that is responsible for the demise of the Sundial and the 48 jobs.

Dateline - Fort Frances, Ontario

January 27 - For those of you in Northern Ontario, the Fort Frances Times reported on January 22,that as yet there has been no decision on whether the illegal order banning smoking by Dr. Peter Sarsfield will be allowed to stand. Which ever side loses is bound to appeal.

Dateline - Fredericton, New Brunswick

January 27 - There are a couple of stories to report out of New Brunswick. The first involves a proposal for a Province-wide smoking ban. Conservative Premier Bernard Lord has previously gone on record opposing such a ban.

CBC New Brunswick reported that the New Brunswick Tourism association has come out against a smoking ban because its "bad for business. "No kidding.

Rheal Robichaud, executive director of the Tourism Association of New Brunswick told the CBC: "The implication of a province-wide smoking ban would have a devastating impact on business."

Dateline - Moncton, New Brunswick

January 27 - In one of the saddest stories I've seen in some time, CBC New Brunswick is reporting on the plight of an elderly woman in Moncton who is dieing of ALS (Lou Gehrig disease) and only asks that she be allowed to smoke indoors in her final days. It seems that Violet Taylor's nursing home was recently declared smoke-free. All Mrs. Taylor asks is to be allowed to smoke in her room, or for reasonable accommodation be provided.

To the Concerned Citizens For Truth-my comparison of modern Canada to Nazi Germany is of course spurious. Hitler imposed the same policy of disallowing smoking in Nursing homes in 1938.

To the loyal readers of Forces Canada: After a three week computer breakdown, I am just starting to get back on line. Please don't send me anything for a few days as I am trying to get my e-mail account up and running to access the correspondence I have missed for the past several weeks. I am writing this from a temporary back up system. In the next couple of weeks I will try to get caught up with all the tobacco news from Canada. Due to my being cut off from the Internet for the past several weeks, and being unable to retrieve all the stories sent to me by people from across Canada and around the world the following submission, although indicative on Canada's war on smokers is in no way complete. I am just as curious as you are to see what I've missed.

Dateline - Toronto, Ontario

January 26 - Canadian Press and the Grope and Flail carried a story last Thursday that shows how $500 million a year are being squandered by The PARASITES.

Something called: "Lung Association's Youth Tobacco Team" is proposing that ALL movies where a character smokes be restricted to those over 18.No word on whether they want to extend this restriction to characters: taking drugs, drinking, gambling, swearing, sex, violence, etc.

Michelle Tham,18,of Mississauga, Ont. was quoted as saying: "Everyone talks about peer pressure being the problem, but sometimes its an individual person. Maybe its one girl who looks up to Julia Roberts and sees her smoke and feels like she has to be influenced by it."

Like that's really deep y'know. In Nazi Germany depictions of smokers were also banned in films and youth smoking reached the highest levels in recorded history. But I digress. Obviously watching Julia Roberts smoke did not influence Miss Tham to take up smoking.

The justification of this was one junk study that has more problems than a used car.

Allan Goluboff, president of the Directors Guild of Canada was quoted as saying: "The whole concept is absolutely ludicrous." No kidding.

The only reason this story was relegated to the back pages of the Grope and Flail was because of the overkill of coverage of the candidacy of Belinda Stronach as a candidate for leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. For those outside of Canada Miss Stronach is a candidate to be the next Prime Minister of the Conservative Party.

Dubbed Canada's answer to Paris Hilton by the Grope and Flail, the Grope engaged in one of its usual overkills. Belinda Stronach is young (37), blond haired blue eyed, drop dead gorgeous, twice divorced, a billionaire who runs Daddy's Billion dollar corporation, doesn't speak French, has one year of University, is in favor of same-sex marriage, opposes the decriminalization of marijuana although she admits to toking up. No word on whether she inhaled.

There was no word uttered by Miss Stronach on Canada's war on smokers as yet. She would be a shoo-in for Governor of California, although I am not sure Canada would elect her as Prime Minister. But this sure ain't our father's Conservative Party.

Dateline - Winnipeg, Manitoba

January 26 - Here is the front page headline from the January 16 Winnipeg Free Press: "Butt ban may cost province $50-M.Gambling revenue loss no surprise."

Do you remember how the anti-smoking nuts love to assure everyone how smoking bans don't impact revenues? The Manitoba Government just put a figure of $50 million on just lost gambling revenues alone. Keep in mind this is a Province of only 1 million people. The $50 million goes to fund health care and education in Manitoba. From Sept1,when the smoking ban was imposed in Winnipeg Casinos to Dec.31,there was a loss of $16 million according to a Provincial government spokesman quoted by the Free Press.

How the smoking ban has impacted the private hospitality industry is anybody's guess. The media in general has not reported this story, but from observations I can attest Loserpeg is a ghost town. One exception was a Jan.19 story in the local section of the Free Press where Jim Baker, executive director of the Manitoba Hotel Association put the losses at 30%.

Dateline - Calgary, Alberta

January 26 - The Heather Crowe show has arrived in Calgary. For those of you unaware this is the Ontario waitress who claims second-hand smoke caused her lung cancer.

Before my old computer died, I went to Google to look up "Blood-libels. "There are some 250,000 entries that appear. Starting in 12th Century Europe, rumors swept towns that Jews kidnapped and killed Christian children to drain their blood to make Passover matzo. Pogroms quickly followed.4 Popes dismissed this as nonsense to no avail. Periodically until the 20th Century this would be resurrected, and widely believed even though no evidence was ever supplied. This became know as a: "Blood-Libel."

The Heather Crowe story and similar claims are a new Blood-Libel. The Blood-Libel of Canadian Liberalism. There is really no point in refuting the evidence, because there is no evidence that remotely substantiates her claim. If there was any real evidence she would have gone to Court to sue the tobacco companies for millions, instead of going around the country making a complete ass of herself, as a paid shill of Physicians For a Smoker Free Canada.

Why am I so confident that this is a hoax? The first law of Toxicology states: "Its the dosage that makes the poison. "In order for Heather Crowe to have contracted lung cancer from second-hand smoke she would have had to have been confined to a twenty foot square foot sealed, on-ventilated room, and have 300 smokers each smoking 62 packs per hour to reach "threshold levels."

There are 40 documented causes of lung cancer in non-smokers-second-hand smoke ain't one of them. The major cause is of course air pollution. By co-incidence Ontario has North America's third worse air behind only Mexico City and L.A.

The point of Heather Crowe's Traveling Salvation Show is to push for smoking bans. The Calgary Sun was happy to oblige. Its no big surprise that Bill (The Mensa) Kauffman was delighted to oblige. The always moronic Mr. Kauffman jumped on this bandwagon. Bill has never explained to readers how he can be so simultaneously anti-tobacco and pro marijuana. B.C.Bud contains 10-20 times the tar and carcinogens of tobacco so you can imagine what second-hand marijuana smoke must be like.

Harder to understand was the column of Licia Corbella. In the past Mrs. Corbella has written sympathetically on smokers rights. Unlike Bill Kauffman, Licia Corbella is not a stupid person. Why Mrs. Corbella fell for this phony propaganda is anybody's guess.

Dateline - Halifax, Nova Scotia

January 23 - Our east to west survey begins in Halifax. We knew this was coming. From the very same city that bans smoking and the wearing of perfume comes something new to bitch about-second-hand marijuana smoke.

CBC is reporting that all the bed pan changers (the Nurses) at Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Halifax whose aesthetics are bothered by cigarette smokers and perfume wearers have taken to bitching because some patients who are allowed for medical reasons to smoke pot. Patients are legally hooting in the hospital. Are they bitching because they were not offered a toke? No. They are bitching because they don't like the smell. Awwww.

Dateline - Fredricton, New Brunswick

January 23 - Canada East is reporting on a campaign beginning in Fredericton bars to defeat the city councilors who voted in Fredericton's smoking ban. The election is due to be held on May 10.The Fredericton smoking ban is the major issue in the forthcoming election. A poster containing the pictures and names of the city councilors who voted for the smoking ban are now circulating in Fredericton bars.

As a public service announcement Forces Canada will name names for any Fredericton resident who does not go to bars: Joel Richardson, Ron Jackson ,Zona Bovington, Andy Wood, Scott McConagy, David Kelly and Stephen Kelly.

If you want to get rid of the Fredericton smoking ban then please go to the polls on May 10 and vote against these characters.

Dateline - Winnipeg, Manitoba

January 23 - There are a few stories out of Loserpeg. The most notable was an announcement from the NDP government that due to the severe loss of VLT business after the smoking bans, they would extend hours of operation and allow VLTs to be used on Sundays to compensate for the losses brought on by the smoking ban.

The Winnipeg media has been very quiet about the effects of how the smoking ban they championed has affected business. The Winnipeg Sun, however gave major play to the fact that (count 'em) three new restaurants have opened despite the smoking ban. No word, however, on how the smoking ban has impacted existing business. Winnipeg's largest restaurant, Earl's shut its doors several months ago.50 jobs were lost.

Three restaurants opening is a rather dubious achievement when you consider that Bob Stevens, president of the Manitoba Restaurant Association told the Winnipeg Free Press business page between 12-20 restaurants are likely to close in the new year. The impact goes well beyond small Mom and Pop restaurants in Blue-collar areas to include the big Branigan's chain. The owner of Branigans was quoted as saying he was desperately trying to hold on until April when the patio season kicks in.

Both the Winnipeg Free Press and Winnipeg Sun carried the story that Winnipeg Hotels are asking for property tax relief because of the smoking ban. The head of the Manitoba Hotel Association claims business is off 30-40%.Be assured that in Blue-collar areas like Winnipeg's North End its probably down twice that amount.

The Winnipeg Sun ran a story that a huge percentage of Winnipeggers are quitting smoking. No word if that's the case why Hotels need tax relief. In response to all those claims of quitting smoking, I love to quote Mark Twain who claims to have quit smoking 1,000 times.

Finally from Loserpeg comes the following story that made the front page of the Free Press. The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WHRA) which oversees the Children's Hospital where a dozen babies deaths were called "preventable" in the longest inquiry in Canadian history, and an endless collection of last place finishes in the McLean's rankings (the University of Manitoba teaching hospitals) going back about 15 years. The major problem at Winnipeg hospitals? People smoking outdoors, of course. I urge Winnipeg readers of Forces Canada to phone the WHRA at 926-7000 and tell them what you think.

Dateline - Saskatoon, Saskatchwean

January 23 - The Saskatoon Star-Phoenix continues to push for a Saskatoon smoking ban. A new provincial law takes effect lowering the percentage of space that is allowed for the smoking section.

Dateline - Edmonton, Alberta

January 23 - The Keep It Simple Club is back in the news. The Edmonton Sun is reporting that smoking is being permitted at the club for recovering alcoholics while they await their liquor license.  The Edmonton smoke police have stopped harassing Keep It Simple while they await their liquor license which allows smoking. The license takes three weeks.

Keep It Simple is hoping that the liquor license becomes unnecessary as it is challenging the bylaw in court. One of Edmonton's top criminal lawyers has volunteered his services free of charge to Keep It Simple.

Dateline - Calgary, Alberta

January 23 - Canada's foremost writer, Calgary Sun columnist Paul Jackson wrote a fabulous column about the Liberal government's 500 million a year anti-smoking PARASITE INDUSTRY. Jackson quoted a recent poll that shows a whopping 80% of Canadians feel its wrong to tax smokers to pay for these PARASITES. This is an issue I hope to exploit in the upcoming Federal election.

Dateline - Drayton Valley, Alberta

January 23 - The Drayton Valley Review is reporting fierce opposition to a proposed smoking ban in Drayton Valley. The hospitality industry has mobilized widespread opposition to the Jan.7 vote by the Drayton Valley City Council.

Dateline - Whitehorse, Yukon

January 23 - The Whitehorse Star is reporting that Porter Creek Billiards and Private Clubs including the Legion have been granted a one year waiver from the Yukon smoking ban. There is a controversy on whether the Yukon Council has the authority to impose its agenda on private clubs.

Dateline - Chemainus, B.C.

January 23 - Speaking of the Liberal government's $500 a year PARASITE INDUSTRY, the Chemainus Chronicle is reporting on a story that is right out of Hitler Youth. It seems that the University of Waterloo and UBC grant junkies have targeted Chemanius high school to try out their theories using kids as glorified laboratory rats.

The kids will be sold a story that smoking is "evil" but it will be couched in medical terms. Smoking is banned on the schoolyard. Any kid caught smoking will be given a suspension from school. The kids will be regularly given 4 page questionnaires on their attitudes towards smoking. Needless to say the kids will be subjected to a non-stop propaganda barrage.

The PARASITES from UBC and the University of Waterloo will baseline the results to compare this to youth smoking rates from the rest of Canada.

And you wonder why 80% of Canadians are starting to get as fed up as we are with the LIBERAL Government's $500 million a year Parasite industry

Dateline - Vancouver, B.C.

January 23 - Stop Duh Presses. Another Liberal government. Another $3.50 per carton cigarette tax hike in B.C. this one from the B. C. Liberal Government. In addition to B.C., Liberal Provincial governments in Ontario and Quebec raised cigarette taxes.

At some point Canadian smokers will go to the polls and send Liberal governments packing. More people smoke in Canada, than vote Liberal in elections.

January 12 - To the loyal readers of Forces Canada: I had another complete computer breakdown. This time it cannot be fixed. All my files and e-email addresses have been lost. Thus any postings for the next week or two will be sporadic. I ordered a new computer and it will be delivered within a week or two, so please don't send me anything until I am back on line. I cannot retrieve e-mails. Hold whatever correspondence you want to send until I am back on line. I promise I will try to get caught up with the tobacco news from across Canada.

Dateline - Winnipeg, Manitoba

January 12 - Due to the difficulty of accessing the Internet in the past week, I cannot bring you all the news from around Canada. Instead I will bring you the only stories I could save, an editorial from the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix and a few stories from the Winnipeg Free Press. Apparently I had a letter published in the Winnipeg Sun, but I never saw it, because of my computer failure.

For some time I have complained that the paper of record in Loserpeg, The Winnipeg Free Press has been conspicuously ignoring the effects of the smoking ban. In the past week, however, there were three separate stories that are symptomatic for what's going on across Canada.

On Thursday the Free Press carried the following headline: "Butt ban irks gamblers, hits profits. City casino revenues down $7.5 million."

The $7.5 million figure is only for the Casinos. This represents a 10.4% decline. For VLTs the decline was $4 million or 21%.

The Free Press quotes Winnipeggers as saying they are going in increasing numbers to the Shooting Star Casino in Minnesota. The Shooting Star offers smokers 5 star comfort at $15 a night after rebates. Plus duty free shopping ect. I urge Winnipeggers to check out the Shooting Star.

The Free Press also profiled the plight of the Legions. The headline read: "Butt ban burning legions. Branch reports $60,000 loss since city bylaw started. "Briefly the legions are being killed by the smoking ban. VLT revenues are down 25%.The bingo in the St. James legion that used to pull in $8,000 a month are now losing money. Packed socials have been replaced with empty halls.

The legions used to raise millions for local charities including the Cadets. For disclaimer purposes my 14 year old son is in Army Cadets. I attended a hearing at city hall protesting including the legions in the smoking ban last summer.

Finally Saturday's Free Press carried this headline: "Owner claims butt ban shut coffee shops. But observers say poor marketing tough competition bigger factors."

The coffee shop in question was Coffee Time in St. Boniface. The headline was totally ridiculous. I happened to be a regular patron before the smoking ban. It was always packed with smokers. The cafe latte's were a fraction of the price of Star-bucks and even better.

The spin of the anti-smoking nuts is just brazen lies. Its not the smoking ban responsible for the casinos. Its the high Canadian dollar keeping Americans at home, the legions were in decline, competition from Star-bucks that charges 2 and a half times as much for coffee killed Coffee Time. The smoking ban had nothing to do with all these co-incidences. Yeah, right.

Dateline - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

January 12 - A few of you sent me an editorial from the Star-Phoenix before my computer died. I was in the process of writing a response when I had the computer failure. Luckily I managed to save one copy in a back-up e-mail account.

A couple of months ago before the big playoff game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the Bomber kicker was quoted as calling Saskatchewan residents: "a bunch of inbred banjo pickin' hicks. "The Star-Phoenix editorial in favor of a smoking ban read like it was written by an" inbred banjo pickin' hick."

A sample: "Second-hand smoke contains nearly three times as much nicotine, 70 per cent more tar and 2.5 times more carbon monoxide than smoke inhaled by the smoker."

The Star-Phoenix then goes on in some length about the anti-smoking nut moronic analogy: second-hand smoke being the equivalent of allowing urinating at one end of a swimming pool, no matter how good the ventilation system. Obviously Honeywell does not have an office in Saskatoon to inform these geniuses about the efficiency of modern day ventilation systems-not 20 year old models. Its too bad they didn't use Banzhaf's (or whatever his name is) moronic analogy: "You can't masturbate where you want. Why should you be allowed to smoke where you want?"  Honest this is the level of discourse of the anti-smoking nuts.

The Star-Phoenix concludes with the "45,000 Canadians who die prematurely from smoking" blah, blah, blah. These are computer generated deaths. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) came up with 450,000 Americans. Health Canada divided by 10.

Ninety percent of these computer generated deaths are people in their 70s and 80s,who die of multi-casual diseases. "Premature" means the numbers are base-lined against Seventh Day Adventists who live on average a year longer than us recalcitrant sinners. In addition to abstaining from tobacco, Seventh Day Adventists avoid alcohol, coffee, carbonated beverages etc.

The average life expectancy for a Canadian smoker is about 81.  A smoker in places like France, Greece and Japan has a higher life expectancy than a non-smoking Canadian.

January 5 - As you can well imagine over the past several weeks there was a lot of tobacco news from across Canada. This edition of Forces Canada will attempt to get you caught up with what went on in Ontario.  Tommorow I will have a R.O.C. (Rest of Canada) edition.

Dateline - Kingston, Ontario

January 5 - There are a couple of stories worth repeating out of Kingston. The Kingston Whig-Standard reported that something called the Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area that represents some 750 downtown business held a meeting not in Kingston, but in nearby Wolf Island. Why would an organization whose mandate is to attract business to the Kingston downtown not hold its meeting in Kingston? The smoking ban, of course. Many members are smokers.

There is a tendency to throw around facts and figures about the effect of smoking bans. I realize that I sometimes sound like Cliff Claven on Cheers. We sometimes forget that these are individuals who invested their life-savings and their sweat equity to build a business, only to see it wrecked by the anti-smoking nuts. Often there is no human face put on reports of lost businesses.

The Kingston-Whig Standard profiled the plight of Carolyn Brown. In her own words,  Mrs. Brown told the Whig-Standard:" You wake up in the morning and all of a sudden you have no income, no money, no job." And no house either.  Mrs. Brown and her construction worker husband, lost their restaurant, their house, their livelihood as a result of the Kingston smoking ban.

Dateline - Fort Frances, Ontario

January 5 - The Fort Frances Times reported that there has still been no decision by three panel members on whether the edict by the unelected, unaccountable, Health Quack bureaucrat,  Dr. Peter Sarsfield has the power to ban indoor smoking in Kenora/Rainy River Ontario.

So far Sarsfield's antics have cost Ontario taxpayers $150,000 in legal fees.  Sarsfield is appealing to Ontario Doctors for donations. Previously I reported that Sarsfield was confident that the lucky taxpayers of Ontario would finance his scheme.  Apparently the Dolton McPsycho Gang that is running a 6 Billion dollar deficit is reticent about pledging more money to Sarsfield.

The Fort Frances Times reported that irregardless which side prevails an appeal is inevitable.

Dateline - Georgetown, Ontario

January 5 - The Georgetown Independent and Free Press reported that Georgetown city council has refused a request from the local hospitality industry to lift the smoking ban. The Red Dog Cafe has already closed its doors because of the smoking ban and according to the Independent and Free Press 2 or 3 others are also on the verge of closing.

Dateline - Collingwood, Ontario

January 5 - Ontario is now running a six billion dollar deficit. And yet they still can find money to pay for 30 second ads in movies warning not to sell cigarettes to those under 19, according to the Collingwood Connection.

Dateline - Thunder Bay, Ontario

January 5 - Thomas Laprade sent along the story from the Thunder Bay News that the local Health Department is recruiting little narcs to entrap businesses into selling cigarettes to under age minors. In a following story, some 34% of Canadian teenagers smoke pot-that they consider harmless that only contains 10-20 times the tar and carcinogens of tobacco.

Dateline - Chatham, Ontario

January 5 - Thomas Laprade also sent me a note to inform me that two bar owners have been charged with allowing smoking in Chatham bars.

Dateline - Ottawa, Ontario

January 5 - In an Ottawa datelined story, The National Post is reporting that the proponents of pornographic warning labels on cigarettes are claiming success. The basis of the claim comes from researchers from (where else?) the University of Waterloo-a notorious bunch of PARASITES. They claim 91% have seen the pornographic propaganda on cigarette packages. The other 9% of Canadian smokers must be blind. They claim, without supplying any evidence that seeing the warning labels (none are true by the way) make smokers more likely to quit. Really.

No word on how many kids actually started smoking because of the pornographic labels. When these things came out, Forces Canada posted a Montreal Gazette story that kids were collecting and trading pornographic cigarette packs like Pokemon cards. A couple of years ago when these things came out, Forces Canada posted these labels on the site. We registered a million hits, so kids would not have to buy cigarettes to get Liberal Government sanctioned pornographic propaganda.

Dateline - Penetanguishene, Ontario

January 5 - In a follow up story first carried last summer in Forces Canada, the National Post reported an Ontario Judge (besides the Senate the other major dumping ground for Liberal Party hacks and bagmen) ruled that a mental patient has no constitutional right to smoke, although he did criticize the policy as cruel.

In the film One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, an inmate at an asylum for the criminally insane was given electric shocks for protesting that he also had a right to smoke. Does life imitate art or does art imitate life?

Dateline - Toronto, Ontario

January 5 - Naturally there are a bunch of stories out of The Big Lemon. The first involves a new Health Canada study that claims to quantify teenagers attitudes to cigarettes, marijuana and alcohol.  The Toronto Sun reports that marijuana is the drug of choice among Canadian teens with 34% admitting to having tried it. Personally I'd be very suspicious of the denials of the other 66%.11% admit to popping Magic Mushrooms. Health Canada claims more teens now drink than smoke.

But what is interesting is their attitudes.  39% of Canadian teens consider marijuana harmful, 13%consider alcohol harmful, but a whopping 80% consider tobacco harmful.

Kiddies the harm these PARASITES claim to be associated with tobacco is in your 70s or 80s.Marijuana and alcohol are both intoxicants. Tobacco is not an intoxicant.  B.C.Bud contains 10-20 times the tar and carcinogens of cigarettes. Smoking one or two joints is the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigarettes.

Alcohol's health effects are very documented. No need to play games with multi-casual diseases that afflict those in their 70s and 80s,like the propaganda about smoking.  Liver, Kidney and Pancreas diseases have all been linked to alcohol.  Its true that only about 5% of drinkers will developed health problems from drinking, but only 3-5%of smokers will ever get lung cancer.

As someone who was a teenager in the 60s,and is the parent of two teenagers, my kids asked me which is the most harmful vice: smoking, drinking drugs, or gambling?

I said to them I think gambling is the most harmful vice. But the rest are not healthy. However a free society allows consenting adults to make decisions about lifestyles that are not particularly healthy. The only thing more harmful than: smoking, drinking, drugs and gambling are a bunch of pain in the ass do-gooders telling everyone how to live.

Take that For What Its Worth.

Speaking of do-gooders telling everyone how to live, the Toronto Red Star carried a story from Cancer Care Ontario, warning Canadians to stop smoking, eat fruits and vegetables to "prevent" cancer.  No word about the role of pollution in causing cancer among Ontarians.

In Nazi Germany, Health warnings to Germans involved stop smoking, eat fruit and vegetables to "prevent" cancer. Cancer rates never declined very much in Nazi Germany, because other factors, such as pollution and the etiology of disease were far more responsible.

I have long accused Grope and Flail "science" reporter Andre Picard of being a moron in over his head who should be covering fires at the Grope and Flail. When you have such few expectations you are not disappointed.

In a front page story in breath taking prose Andre discusses two brand new breath taking studies about second-hand smoke. These two studies were so new and breath taking that no one else seemed to find them newsworthy. Not one of the usual anti-smoking hysterics covered this new study: The New York Times, the Washington Post, the Toronto Red Star, or even the Minneapolis Star Tribune. The story originated in Minneapolis. Besides the Grope and Flail only ABC News (a wholly owned subsidiary of the rabidly anti-smoking Disney company) carried an account on its web site but not on the 5:30 Peter Jennings broadcast.

Here was the big front page news from the Grope and Flail: Minnesota researchers detected that non-smokers who are in the smoking section of a casino have 2% of NNK and NNAL, two carcinogens found in smokers. I have three words for this. Two of them are BIG DEAL. Both are literally pissed out of your system. Drink an extra glass of water and you'll be fine.

In response to the Grope and Flail story, a Forces Canada reader passed long an interesting suggestion. If our blood and organs are as tainted as the Grope and Flail claim-then don't donate blood and rip up organ donation cards.

The other BIG STORY was the California EPA citing exactly NO EVIDENCE now links second hand smoke with breast cancer. At least the California EPA is being consistant.  They also link SIDS, heart  disease, asthma, lung cancer with second-hand smoke even though there is not one iota of evidence that begins to substantiate these claims.

Every group with an agenda links breast cancer to something.  Abortion, lawn chemicals, (I'm not making this up) drycleaning have been linked to breast cancer. Never mind there is no evidence linking any of these with breast cancer whose cause is still unknown.

Taking those with an agenda at face value, you can make a credible argument that women who have had abortions are 50% more likely to developer breast cancer than from second-hand smoke. Those who had an abortion have a 1.5% chance of developing breast cancer. Those who have been around second-hand smoke have a 1%.Before you become terrified anything under 2 is not considered even credible risk.  Epidemiology Journals will not accept anything for publication for anything under a 3-4 level. Tap water and second-hand smoke are both around a 1%level.If you are in Asia and are bitten by a mosquito and developed malaria that's a 7-the highest level in epidemiology.

Groups with agendas sell this scare-mongering to gullible morons like Andre Picard to push smoking bans.

Finally from Toronto comes the latest from Toronto's poster girl of affirmative action, Toronto Health bureaucrat, Dr. Sheela Basrur.  For those of you forgot, Sheela made a complete ass of herself, making a mess of the SARS outbreak. Now Sheela has more pressing concerns for lucky residents of Toronto.

The Toronto Red Star quotes Poor Little Sheela as saying her most pressing concerns for the new year are banning Designated Smoking Rooms, lawn chemicals, and Ontarians watching too much TV. No word on Toronto's legendary pollution.
