TOBACCO NEWS FROM CANADA

Comments by Warren Klass President, FORCES - Canada

Dateline - Guelf, Ontario

February 20 - I realize that a multitude of you have been sending me endless stories from throughout Canada over the endless insanity going on throughout this country, that desperately needs a long overdue Kulturekamph to expel the yahoos from the temple and I’m not just talking about the endless war on smokers either. I think my fellow Canadians have a pretty good understanding about what I’m talking about.

I admit that the first week of the Harper era, with Tony Clement being named Health Minister has been a disappointment. Why is it ALWAYS Ontario that keep fostering the Tony Clements and the George Smithermans on the rest of us?

In the last couple of weeks, since the election, I have been suffering from a deep depression that has left me unable to focus on issues affecting Canadian smokers. For this I apologize to the readers of Forces Canada.

The headline on the front page of Wednesday’s Winnipeg Free Press reads: ”Want to know if you’re likely to die in 4 years?”  Sure some Quack manipulating a few long known statistics has cracked the age-old mystery of why and when we die. Yeah, right.

Needless to say smoking is at the top of the list followed by the usual suspect ”Obesity” (defined down like “addiction” to juice the numbers and for polemical purposes in selling this garbage to a bunch of morons in the media who couldn’t cover a fire). Everybody who smokes and is “overweight” being too thin is also dangerous suffers from a lifestyle disease. But if you quit smoking your metabolism will put on about 12-15 pounds. I once raised this issue with a Toronto Cardiac Nurse on an open line show. Suffice to say she was stuck for an answer as to the health benefits of quitting smoking, given the inevitable weight gain.

This being Canada there is no dialectic contradiction that SCREAMS in the headlines: We’re all gonna die cause we (pick it) eat too much, smoke too much. Never mind for a moment that these diseases the PARASITES are protecting us from are ALL multi-causal. There is NEVER any proof offered, but rather an endlessly re-cycled polemic, backed up with manipulated statistics, sold to a complete bunch of morons in the media who couldn’t cover a fire. Canada 2006.

Dateline - Post election Comment: Liberals Lose! Conservative Minority

“You can’t always get what you want.
No, you can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometime, you just might find you get what you need.”
The Rolling Stones, You Can’t Always Get What You Want.

The first e-mail I received last night, about Monday’s election came from an American reader of Forces Canada. This regular reader, and frequent correspondent, sent me a copy of the Associated Press dispatch, on the Canadian election, with the question if this means:  ”Canada’s Health-Nazis are sent packing?”

An excellent question, I wish I had a good answer. A Conservative MAJORITY would have assured a long over due housecleaning in Canada where the entire multi-Billion dollar class of anti-smoking PARASITES, would have been sent en mass, on special smoke-free Air Canada flights on a one way trip to clear land-mines in Angola, with a complimentary copy of the Toronto Red Star bemoaning their great loss to Canada, blah, blah, blah.

The Liberals received 4 million votes on Monday. More people in Canada smoke than vote Liberal in federal elections. The good news to report is that enough smokers outside of Toronto and Vancouver used their heads, went to the polls and made a difference. I am delighted that the Liberals are out of government. The Conservatives power thanks to Vancouver and our always-beloved fellow citizens of Toronto has been greatly reduced.

To say he can’t do everything doesn’t mean Harper can’t do anything for the smokers of Canada who contributed to the 26% increase in Conservative Party voting to over 5 million. The Liberal Party lost 16% of the vote to 4 million.

Prime Minister Harper, there are millions of us who voted Conservative yesterday. In many ridings it was disgruntled smokers who were the margin of victory that sent large chunks of the Liberal Cabinet packing.

Here is what Forces Canada would like to see from a Conservative minority government:

  1. No Tony Clement (assuming he wins his 24 vote margin recount) as Minister of Health. Find Clement another cabinet post other than Health. His tenure as the previous Minister of Health left a lasting impression with Ontario smokers.

  2. Fullfillment of the campaign promise to bring the hundreds of millions given as a slush fund to the Anti-Smoking PARASITES be brought under the purview of the Auditor General. I suspect that when the Auditor General gets a look at where Billions of anti-smoker money went, under the Liberals-there will be a huge outcry for their de-funding-the first step in restoring decency to Canada.

Mr. Harper, Forces Canada attempted to keep Canadian smokers loyal when the Conservative Party was at 10% in the polls. Millions of Canadian smokers like myself cast their ballots Monday for the Conservatives to stop this Liberal Party madness.

Its getting to the point where I’m no fun anymore…Don’t let the past remind us of what we are not now.” Crosby, Stills, Nash, Suite Judy Blue Eyes.1968

“I have a fabulous job. I have a condo on the beach. My roller-skates cost $750.WHY AM I SO UNHAPPY?” Esquire cover, late 1970s.

January 23 - Margaret Wente of the Grope and Flail last Friday wrote a column on the looming existential crisis among Toronto’s Latte Liberals, pondering the implication of a Liberal Party defeat in Monday’s election. Make no mistake these are core smoking ban supporters. Primarily middle-aged women, this is the group that keeps the Liberal Party in power. How many who show up to vote Liberal in Toronto Monday will determine the kind of Canada we will have.

For my final pre-election comment I thought it would be interesting to profile Liberal voters through the personals.

There is an unintended consequence in the smoking ban war. Dating has gone from bars and coffee shops to the Internet for us middle-aged. The number of women on these things is unbelievable.

My best friend (mid 40s,recently separated from latest girlfriend, two ex-wives, a high 6 figure net worth, runs and founded successful businesses, a yacht in Gimli, vintage restored car, etc, etc, basically non-smoker but occasional moocher) goes on these Dating lines between girlfriends.

What does this have to do with the upcoming election? A portrait of the women in Canada who keep the Liberals in power.

I’m not going to mention the Dating site other than to say it is International. I was struck by a real mob of unnecessary duplicates from Winnipeg Canada; the women who are anti-smokers, mid to late 40s to late 50s,all divorced, with terrific jobs. Their profiles read that they are all left of center politically, ie Liberal voters.

My friend, a Conservative voter who would be their ideal match, wants no part of them. As a non-smoker himself, he finds them a pain in the ass to be around. Be assured that a charming, good-looking guy with high 6 figure net worth and a successful business has no problem attracting a multitude of willing women. But he’s had enough anti-smokers one former girlfriend and a whole entourage of like-minded friends to last a lifetime.  Real anti-smoking, Liberal Party True Believers. He met the bitch from hell, on the rebound after his second divorce.

Its just amazing how many divorced, over-weight anti-smoking women there are out there who advertise their left-leaning politics. These are the women who vote Liberal and keep them in power, depressing election after election. I was surprised at how few single smokers there were on this particular site. There were a few non-smokers in their 50’s who didn’t smoke themselves, but were unconcerned about others smoking.

My best friend and I have talked to several of the girls he met on line (I’m not in the Yachting class, not even close) through a three-way phone call. One charming young woman in her mid-30s, divorced with a young child, assured me that although she didn’t smoke, she hated the anti-smoking nuts.  If only I were about 15 years younger and a lot richer.  His next wife?

There was an unintended consequence. I talked to a lady and sort of hit it off. She is a smoker, late 40s,never married, no kids. She came over for coffee. We have a second date planned.

“Call out the instigator, cause there’s something in the air.
We got to get it together sooner or later, cause the revolution’s here.
And you know that it’s right.” — Thunderclap Newman, Something in the Air

January 16 - I want ALL Canadian smokers to go to the polls and ask themselves if they have HAD ENOUGH of the Liberal Party’s 12 year war on Canadian smokers. More people smoke in Canada than vote Liberal in federal elections.

This is the same country where junkies have shoot-up rooms. Swingers or swappers or whatever the hell they are, have constitutionally protected rights. Same-sex marriage was imposed. Polygamists now want the same right, and tax deductions for their 8 or 10 spouses. Next it will be somebody who wants to marry his or her goats and grab a tax deduction. But smokers have no rights in Liberal Party Canada!

Forget the smoking issue for a moment.  As a Canadian have you HAD ENOUGH of the endless Liberal Party scandals, kickbacks for government contracts, shady insider deals, squandering of billions on pork barrels and patronage, screwball appointments to the Courts, etc, etc?

Smokers of Canada-on election day:  ASK NOT WHAT THE LIBERAL PARTY HAS DONE TO YOU.  ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO TO THE LIBERAL PARTY.
