I have a thesis suggestion for the young ethicists at the University of Toronto- "The Ethics of the anti-smoking nuts - an oxymoron?" It was Kant who believed that a just means leads to a just end. The anti-smoking nuts have a very good reason to be paranoid about having their ethics questioned. Is there one aspect of civilized behavior that
is not being transgressed in their quest for a smoke-free Canada? Lets start with the perversion of
science to fit ideological agendas? Not since Galileo have we seen science
perverted to fit an ideological agenda. How about private property rights
being discarded? How about little kids in schools being taught to hate their
parents for smoking? How about hospital patients, including bleeding people

Many times in the past few years when the call for help came from Forces Canada, Americans were there to help. There is no way Forces Canada could exist without the help of Americans. When the franc was in danger of collapsing in 1956,it was the Americans who propped it up and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it. The Marshall Plan...the Truman Policy all pumped billions upon billions into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent war-mongering Americans. The source for Mr. Rodenhiser (a real Rotten hoser) thesis is the always reliable Canadian Cancer Society. Here's the big evidence from David Rodenhiser. Philip Morris and the Canadian Tobacco Manufacturing Council (or whatever its called) monitored the indoor smoking ban movement. Wow. "Big Tobacco" kept itself informed on the antics of the Halifax anti-smoking nuts. I have 3 words for this. Two of them are BIG DEAL. I'm sure both Big Tobacco and the anti-smoking nuts monitor us at Forces. They wouldn't be doing their jobs if they didn't. But Rodenhiser puts a sinister spin on this rather innocuous activity.

The hospitality Industry who employ many people are the stooges of Big Tobacco for trying to stop smoking bans that have decimated the industry wherever they've been imposed? U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft once said as the Missouri Senator: "Why is it every time folks try to stand up for their rights the response from those pushing smoking bans is "Big Tobacco"? Mrs. Wente quotes University of Colorado Law Professor, Paul Campos: "The obesity industry relies on systematic distortion and outright fabrication of evidence...a 50 billion a year racket." Sounds like anti-smoking nuts, doesn't it? It gets better. When one thinks of obesity one thinks of Sumo wrestlers, right? Wrong. Obesity like addiction has been re-defined. The "epidemic" of obesity now includes: Russel Crowe, Brad Pitt, and George Clooney. Addiction has been re-defined as well from something intoxicating to include: smoking, chocolate and sex. Mrs. Wente takes on the authoritative health-claims of the fat police. She claims there is no correlation between obesity and cancer, heart disease and Hyper-tension. Thin people are 2.5 times more likely to suffer a fatal heart attack. The only disease with a clear link is Type 2 diabetes. Mrs. Wente describes the beliefs of the anti-fat as being the same gang that is anti-smoker:" Condemning fat people as unhealthy allows us to describe our true opinion, which is that they are also lazy, dirty, disgusting and have no will power. Zundel's wife is worried that if he is deported back to Germany and not Canada, (Zundel was refused Canadian citeznship) the Germans will put him in a cell "and throw away the key." Be assured the anti-smoking nuts were well represented. The Winnipeg rally drew 5,700 out of a population of 650,000.In Toronto they drew 10,000 out of a population of millions. This latest pronouncement comes right after the OMA's suggestion on how to "fix" Canada's government run medical monopoly. The only countries on earth that entrust governments to have a monopoly on medical services besides Canada are North Korea and Cuba. The OMA's prescription for "fixing" Canada's glorified 3rd world medicine? "ONLY" an extra $31 billion more. Be assured the lions share will go to increasing doctors salaries. Canada already "only" spends about $120 Billion a year on Medicare. This story comes from CTV News, and the Globe and Mail (Grope and Flail). Much of the rest of the Canadian media either ignored the story completely or buried it in the back pages. It was front page news at the Grope and Flail. CTV gets millions in advertising revenue from the nauseating government propaganda campaign and the stop smoking snake oil-that doesn't work-from Big Pharma. CTV along with the Grope and Flail, are wholly owned subsidiaries of Bell Canada. Just today Bell Canada bought a "minority" stake of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, and the Air Canada Center in Toronto. This is the very same phone company that regularly gouges Ontario and Quebec phone users. The Federal Liberal Government that places millions of anti-smoking ads on CTV, allows Bell to control the Grope and Flail, and regularly approve rate hikes for phone users-never seems to be criticized very much by either CTV or the Grope and Flail. Not a day goes by without hearing from our good pal, London Free Press columnist Chip Martin. Today Chip is gloating how easy it was to push through London's 100% anti-smoking by-law. Most councilors received no opposition from smokers. If Londoners gave a damn I would suggest: cancelling subscriptions to the London Free Press, getting hospitality people to stop advertising in the London Free Press, sending Forces Canada a list of National and International advertisers of the London Free Press for a possible boycott. The longest, most comprehensive study ever undertaken to measure the What the Oak Ridge study did find was that exposure to "respirable suspended particulate matter" which includes second-hand smoke was LESS than one-sixth of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administrations allowable level. The Oak Ridge study also accused the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) of using studies that spiked levels of second-hand smoke to push for smoking bans. Here Chip quotes an aspiring Mensa candidate" In the long run, is it not better to be unemployed than dead?" There is a huge connection between smoking bans and unemployment, and virtually no evidence about second-hand smoke and any of the propaganda this young parrot quoted to Chip. The great economist John Maynard Keynes once said, "In the long run we're all dead." Of course what would a Chip Martin column (Yawwwn) be without invoking Ottawa waitress Heather Crowe's Sister Love's Traveling Salvation Show. Specially ventilated Designated Smoking Rooms don't work because? Well,um...they just don't. It would also be a huge financial burden for restaurants to spend a lot of money accommodating smokers. Chip cannot understand why restaurants are so concerned about the 20% of the population its higher, but why confuse Chip with the facts?) that smoke when 80% doesn't smoke. This wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that "20%"make up about 80%of hospitality revenue, especially in Blue-collar areas. The only reason that there are not more draconian restrictions in Ontario in some places is because the Ottawa experience has scared a few city councils in Ontario. In testimony given at the Sinclair Inquiry into the deaths of 12 Babies, the longest in Canadian history) the H.S.C. hired a pediatric cardiac surgeon whose supervisor testified under oath couldn't do anything more than open and close a chest, and was unqualified to perform a complete canulation. The MMA has said nothing about the 12 Baby Deaths-they're too busy worrying about smoking bans. For those of you ho felt that the Lung Association was nothing more than a bunch of middle-aged busy-body matrons who just pushed smoking bans and go into schools to teach kids to hate their parents for smoking-alas the Manitoba Lung Association according to the Winnipeg Free Press has found a new cause to go with smoking bans. The Lung Association is asking the City of Winnipeg to spend $150,000 to buy back pre-1996 cars. Winnipeg has: the highest property taxes in North America, leads Canada in murder, arson, child poverty, has a library system with the lowest book collection of any major North American city, is the pothole capital of North America etc. When not pushing smoking bans, going into schools demonizing parents to their kids, the Lung Association wants the city of Winnipeg to buy back pre-1996 cars. Chip ignores the summation of Penn State historian Robert Proctor that Hitler's anti-smoking campaign is" in some sense just as fascist as Yellow Stars and Death camps." Chip Martin would be very hard pressed to cover fires at any other newspaper on earth-but has made a name for himself as a hack columnist regularly spreading hate and disinformation at the London "Free Press" I hope you're reading this Chip. Besides a santitized, watered down account of Hitler's smoking program (borrowed from Forces) Chip gives the raison d'être to ban smoking everywhere in London, Ontario- because Heather Crowe's Sister Love's Traveling Salvation Show made a stop in London, Ontario. Heather is old news, Chip. Even Health Canada has pulled the ads because NOBODY-other than you-believes or can to begin to prove that the Ottawa waitress got lung-cancer from second-hand smoke. Even Doctors in your hometown London, Ontario have publicly questioned this diagnosis. Without appearing overly pedantic Chip- how can second-hand smoke cause lung cancer in a human when it has never even been successfully induced in laboratory rats? There are 40 causes of lung cancer in non-smokers Chip. Maybe it was Asbestos. Maybe it was green house gasses, maybe it was genetics, maybe it was diet, maybe it was lack of exercise maybe it was 35 other things too Chip. To those smokers in Canada-let this be a lesson to you. Smoking bans are not etched in stone. If you refuse to patronize an establishment where you can't smoke, the laws can be changed, perhaps imperfectly, but changed none the less. If you give in -nothing will change. The antis will see your acquiescence to further restrict the rights of smokers throughout Canada and the U.S. They will use your acquiescence for their propaganda campaign. And remember this is not about health. This is about transparent social-engineering and a "De-Normalization" of smokers campaign. Dateline Kenora, Ontario-A follow-up: Several months ago Forces Canada reported on the edict from the un-elelected, unaccountable Reich Health Fuhrer of Northern Ontario, Dr.Peter Sarsfield that decreed that the entire hospitality industry of Northern Ontario be smoke-free or else. On Friday 8 restaurants in Kenora, Ontario won an interim stay from the Ontario Health Services Appeal and Review Board to continue to allow smoking. Over the past several months, I have received innumerable correspondence from Northern Ontario about this outrage and betrayal of democracy. There are two things worth noting. Virtually every newspaper in Northern Ontario has endorsed Sarsfield's action. And Sarsfield has never supplied one iota of evidence to substantiate any of his claims about second-hand smoke. Sarsfield keeps claiming this is about health-not money or social engineering. If Sarsfield has such a great case why doesn't he make it, and produce the evidence the world has not seen in 400 years? There are a few new developments in this one. The Judge to her credit offered to pay most if not all of the $19,000 for the ventilation system in her office. Lets face it- the $19,000 is a red herring. Its peanuts. The B.C. hospitality industry has lost millions because of the smoking bans. Nobody has yet calculated how many millions the B.C. Tourist Industry has lost because of smoking bans. The issue is not over the $19,000 but about special treatment for the powerful and well connected. In a story that could only come out of Cuckoo Land, according to Saturday's Globe and Mail (Grope and Flail) lawyer Doug Christie has filed an official complaint about the Judge's special treatment. Some of Mr. Christie's illustrious clients have included noted Holocaust Deniers and convicted hate-mongers Jim Keegstra and Ernst Zundel.If anyone is curious about the kind of clients Mr. Christie attracts I will gladly forward Ernst Zundel's glowing account of Hitler's anti-smoking campaign. 26 - The Canadian Business magazine ran a profile of a Toronto bars, smoking
bans, and ventilation systems. The bar in question first banned smoking voluntarily, saw business
plummet, allowed smoking and installed a ventilation system. The article naively believes ventilation systems are the answer to
smoking bans. The ventilation system profiled is both cheap and effective.
Independent tests have shown that the system profiled has produced cleaner
air than non-smoking restaurants, its air is 5 times cleaner than non-smoking malls. The Canadian Business story makes a plea on behalf of the
100,000 hospitality workers in Toronto whose livelihood is threatened with
smoking bans.
