AN INTERESTING PARALLELISM

We have been accused of over-comparing restrictive, health-oriented thinking to fascism.

When put in front of what is printed in this page, what is one supposed to think?

Compare this:

Excerpt from an abstract in the 1992-93 "Selected Annotations".

"The author has found apathy among the medical audiences, they exibit an apparent lack of interest in a nonmedical approach to the problem [of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease]. The author proposes to control access to tobacco for current nonsmokers. The author states that the proposal involves the licensing of current smokers, letting them buy cigarettes until they die, and not replacing them with new addicts. The author concludes that the government will have to face the issue of tobacco accessibility to current nonsmokers if society is serious about eliminating smoking-related disease."

And this:

"Eventually, they [the smokers] are going to die out" said. Dr. Muller, a general practitioner in the District.[*] "I think they should smoke as much as they like -- that will cut down their membership quickly."

[*] Dr. Muller is also the mayor of Friendship Heights, the U.S. village in Montgomery County that has proposed a total smoking ban that includes streets, parks, and any other location except private houses.
