Welcome to the new FORCES site!

Forces was founded before the majority of households had personal computers. Now we have smart phones, ipads and high speed Internet service to the majority of people in the United States and Europe. We have 24/7 - news cycles, Facebook, Twitter and Google, we have truly entered the information age. Thus we have decided to de-emphasize our focus on serving as a news feed while still working to bring about a new age of peaceful coexistence of smokers and nonsmokers.

There are now a good number of high quality and dependable newsletters, email lists, and blogs that produce new, reliable, and thought-provoking material on daily and weekly bases. Our News Page will largely serve to direct FORCES visitors to those resources while still featuring contributions from our own core group of writers. You can also continue to join us on Forces Tavern or Facebook.

FORCES will be concentrating our efforts to the Free Choice 2020s: a decade in which ventilation, air filtration and tolerance will largely take the place of today's more unreasonable prohibitions. It's now 2013, and over the next seven years we will lay the groundwork for that new decade and help move the world to a place where the rights of all people, smokers and nonsmokers alike, are considered and respected.

We still need your help and support to continue to keep the website open to all, with updates on the latest anti-smoking research. The anti-smoking establishment has a great deal of money to continue to spread their misinformation campaign and while all of us are volunteers we still need your donations. Please be generous and donate now, your donations are tax deductible.

Finally, the Inspector General
5th March 2013
The CDC gave grants to anti-tobacco, who in turn lobbied for smoking bans.

The Inspector General's Office said quarterly grant reports filed by cities and organizations "may reflect inappropriate lobbying activities using CPPW grant funds."

The letter proceeded to state that CDC-provided information "appear to authorize, or even encourage grantees to use grant funds for impermissible lobbying. Furthermore, grantee activity reports posted online make troubling assertions that, on their face, raise the possibility that … anti-lobbying provisions were violated."

The Inspector General Office's allegation is a serious one. Use of congressional funds in an attempt to enact tobacco regulations is illegal.

Tobacco Legislation For 2013
5th March 2013
Here is a list of pending legislation on tobacco, by taxes, bans or changing the legal age to purchase tobacco.
Find out what is going on in your state.

Oregon
5th March 2013

Oregon legislators have become addicted to the so-called sin taxes they place on booze, drugs, and gambling. If we don’t break their addiction, it will expand into areas such as sugary soft drinks and fatty foods.

Now, a provocative new study challenges the whole concept of sin taxes, finding that they “not only do little to limit the use of ‘bad’ products, they do nothing to reduce societal costs.” Most remarkably, the study “demonstrates that those shockingly large estimates of the costs that the consumption of alcohol, tobacco, sugar, and fat supposedly impose on society have little basis in reality.”

There are additional studies done by the Congressional Research Service that support this study.

Russia
28th February 2013
President Putin, has signed a new law banning smoking in public places. From 1 June smoking will be outlawed in offices, playgrounds and station entrances, with a ban on restaurants, bars and long-distance trains following a year later.

They don't expect the people to comply.

EU
28th February 2013
Four months after health commissioner John Dalli resigned over alleged industry attempts to influence the EU Tobacco Products Directive, European lawmakers are preparing to re-examine the draft legislation. A majority of European lawmakers appear to back further EU proposals for tobacco regulation but face opposition from pro-industry colleagues and the 100-strong cohort of Brussels tobacco lobbyists nicknamed “Goliath” by anti-smoking campaigners.

It is time these people have some major resistance, power had gone to their heads.
