ANALYSIS OF THE CALIFORNIA EPA REPORT ON SECONDHAND SMOKE
The following documents are an analysis of the Cal-EPA report on ETS (secondhand smoke) done by Carol Thompson of the Smokers' Rights Action Group. It was submitted to The California Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA). In excellent form and analysis of the EPA document, chapter by chapter, Carol Thompson attacks the "firm" findings by Cal-EPA. According to the exact words of the notice of public comment, it states, "With this notice, OEHHA announces the beginning of a 60 - day public comment period. But FORCES would like to know the meaning of the statement in the same notice stating, "To expedite completion, OEHHA intends to respond only to comments that raise new issues or present new information not previously considered." We at FORCES worry that "to expedite completion" they will ignore very strong rebuttals to the Cal-EPA report saying that it was not raising a new issue. Having dealt with many an anti-smoker since our founding, we certainly know the plow jobs that the anti-smokers can do with evidence that refutes their claims. We will be following this case to see if it was considered in the final document. You can read the whole Cal-EPA report online at: www.calepa.cahwnet.gov/oehha Read the rebuttal, chapter by chapter, and see for yourself if all scientific evidence was considered by Cal-EPA.
