Seems ironic that in the same month that all of the bars and lounges in California went smokeless, a local bastion of smoke-free dining and lounging will revert to allow smoking in its lounge.

Cutters Bayhouse, 2001 Western Avenue, Seattle (206 448-4884), was the first major restaurant in Seattle to go smoke-free in 1992. But they paid a price. "We immediately lost 25 percent of our bar business and never recovered it", said lunch manager Greg Stephens. "With a new remodel and a new menu by our chef, Brad Komen, we thought it was a good time to reconsider."

Cutters will close Jan 17 and reopen Jan 28. "Cigar and smoke lounges are all the rage these days" said Stephens. This was entirely a business decision."
