California's "community Support"
Has Been Purchased By Dispensing Cash
CALIFORNIA'S "COMMUNITY SUPPORT" HAS BEEN PURCHASED
BY DISPENSING (TAXPAYERS') CASH
Coalition building is a form of locality development. Coalitions encourage local organizations and groups to adopt tobacco control as their one project. Networking among coalition members fosters sharing of resources and reduces conflict. It lends instant credibility to the program because it involves recognized community leaders and tends to isolate opponents.
The anti-tobacco cartel is constantly using phrases such as 'coalition building' and 'grass roots organizing' to infer that the anti-smokers agenda burbles up from community concerns over the evils of smoking. In reality the anti-smoking "movement" is strictly a top down concept and cannot function without massive amounts of government funding.
FORCES has compiled a list of names and figures provided by California's Tobacco Control Section. A perusal will show that community support has been obtained by dispensing cash to community groups which in turn parrot the anti-tobacco cartel's rhetoric. Any state considering a tobacco tax to fund anti-smoking "education" can expect to see such a list in the first year of its enactment.
