Calls for smoker concessions in Israel
Dec 7, 2009—A Likud Member of the Knesset, Ophir Akunis, has expressed concern about the rights of smokers and indicated that he wants to liberalize some of the rules on smoking, according to a story in The Jerusalem Post.
Akunis, a former adviser to Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, and currently the powerful chairman of the Knesset Economics Committee, said he wanted to roll back the amendment passed last year that required owners of premises to enforce no-smoking laws, and insert an exemption in a previous law that bars smoking in all pubs. Small neighborhood bars should let young people light up, he added.
