The
FORCES Multi Media Project
We have reached our goal!
This
is to let our readers around the world know that we have reached our
US$50,000 goal for the Multi Media Project (MMP). We don’t think that
we have the words to adequately express our gratitude and
appreciation for your generous contributions. We can only say:
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The
work on the five new portals is now almost complete and we are busily
fixing the last bugs and perfecting the final details and will launch very
soon. We have already acquired the first media kits for our
correspondents, and we are currently testing them. We have all the
technical accessories for the project ready. We will begin with about
10 correspondents from several nations around the world. Amongst them
the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, Canada and
Denmark. That, of course, is on top of our written
correspondences and commentaries.
These
are passionate people who represent millions, and who know the vital
importance of fighting antitobacco and the healthist mentality it
carries. As we stated in earlier occasions, the Multi-Media Project is more than just
news and information. It is a tool to bring people together, to let
them know that they are not alone, that it is not true that “they are
the only fools on Earth” as the mass media propaganda wants them to
believe. The MMP is to bring the targets of "public health"
together to break the back of the pharmaceutically controlled
Therapeutic State. There are billions of smokers, drinkers and fat
people in the world
–
and no, they
do not accept being subjugated.
They don’t look forward to quitting. They don’t feel guilty for what they
do and what they are. They don't want to be "denormalized"
–
for
they are normality itself. The abnormality is "public
health" and its moral and statistical frauds. So,
smokers DO want to
organize, communicate and destroy antitobacco and its
institutional frauds. Public health is
for sanitation and for infectious disease control, NOT
for social behaviour control. The achievement of our goal
is proof of the positive attitude and it is the first step in the
implementation of that conviction and will.
As
we already stated, the Multi Media Project is not just for the “FORCES
people”. The MMP is for ALL those who are
involved in the fight against “public health” and healthism –
regardless of whether they support property rights rather than
science, or general libertarian attitudes rather than the preferred
brand of cigars. You are ALL invited to participate, because the MMP is for YOU – a structured medium of your own, to counter the false
or biased information spread by the mass media, lackeys of “public
health”. There will be news. There will be audio and video. There will
be highly searchable scientific evidence. There will be
educational interactive courses from ground zero – to “take you by
the hand” and give you the means to understand truly the greatest
institutional fraud even conceived without the need for any "act of
faith". There will be forums and courses where recurrent mistakes that
are made everywhere will be discussed, along with what works, what
doesn’t and what to do to fight, damage and neutralize the effects of
smoking bans in a continuous exchange of information and experiences.
So,
the MMP is much more than news: it is a tool to fight the global
healthist cancer – globally. This launching pad is due to YOU. You may continue to donate even if we have reached our goal, to
sustain the development of the project and to speed it up. We don’t
believe in the “fight without money” attitude. We don't believe that
the truth "will come out eventually". We don't believe it because we
have learned from history. Truth and liberty come out when sufficient
economic and political power is exerted to destroy
the current "public health" incarnation. "Public health" may go
on hating us, but it will not be able to ignore us for much
longer.
For
that reason
we will always need your contributions, advertising, support and
donations to grow stronger and larger in a structured and organized
way. Powerless "lone wolves" howling at the moon stay powerless.
Smoking bans are not the end of our way of life,
but the beginning of antitobacco’s destruction. We have no
doubt that there will be a time when antismoking is going to be
“socially unacceptable” and its operatives will be punished for their
frauds. As we said earlier: this is not a threat. It is a promise. |

Subverting the obesity “epidemic” scare
- The current round of societal paranoia about eating and obesity was bound to
generate a counter-reaction among the savvy and hip. Witness the recent nude
debut of hefty pop-punk singer Beth Ditto on the cover of a British pop magazine
“wearing
nothing but a lipstick tattoo on her tush… Ditto has also
posed nude for London’s Sunday Times and
once refused to sing at the hip U.K. fashion chain Top Shop because the store
doesn’t cater to women her size. Her fat pride is an inspiring counterpoint to
the current troubles plaguing other full-figured singers.”
It’s a safe bet
that Ditto will not become the next Pamela Anderson, but that’s hardly the
point. She’s delivering a nice provocative punch in the gut for a propaganda
machine that seeks to assign one less human value point for every extra pound
over whatever the health tyrants say is the “ideal”. If that sounds like an
overreaction on our part, consider the creep who tried to launch a campaign
against American Idol contender Jordin Sparks because her size suggested
“diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol.“ Beth and Jordin, we salute you.
Hope you both sell lots of albums.

Netherlands: marijuana smoking banned along with tobacco smoking
– Yes, it is true: the famous Dutch coffee shops will be liberty-free starting
July 2008, when the Netherlands complies with the WHO dictatorship and
proceeds as if the passive smoke were a real danger for non smokers.
"Coffee
shops will be treated in the same manner as other catering businesses. They will
be smoke-free,"
Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende told NOS television.
"It would have been wrong to move towards a smoke-free catering industry and
then make an exception for coffee shops. People would not have understood that.
… Employees should not have to work in an environment were they are constantly
exposed to the harmful effects of smoking. Establishments will not in fact have
to be completely smoke-free. Proprietors will be allowed to set up a separate
room or glass partition behind which people can smoke, but customers will not be
served there to protect staff.”
Of course there are no
“harmful effects of smoking”, but in these times, unfortunately, that point will
have to be driven home with force -- not with reason -- because we are in
the realm of beliefs and not in that of science. In the meantime, many
Dutch smokers will probably feel relieved that they still can smoke while being
put into public display and humiliation – a part of the social “denormalization”
process and a prelude to total prohibition -- but just the few that matter can
see that far and work to uproot the antismoking fraud instead of dancing around
its branches.
Join us and you will be amongst them.
While it is
childish to take pleasure in the misfortunes of others, we cannot help but grin
at the marijuana supporters who, quite often, adamantly advocate tobacco smoking
bans in one of the oh-so typical contradictions of the
hippy-turned-health-conscious generation. According to many of those bozos, in
fact, pot smoking is “therapeutic” and even “cancer fighting” while tobacco
smoke “kills”. As there are several pot smokers in antitobacco and in “public
health” institutions, the marijuana supporters often rush to kiss the ass of
fraudulent “public health” and damn tobacco smoking with the hope to be
“spared”. We have to say that in the most severe cases of political retardation
that works – in places like Canada, where there are marijuana smoking rooms in
universities, where smoking tobacco is severely forbidden! This paroxysm,
however, does not work in NL, where pot smokers get a dose of antitobacco
medicine.

Hospital forcibly discharges patients who smoke outside its limits: will anyone
take the bastards to court?
- It is absolutely natural that a hospital coerces the will of a patient, isn’t
it? It is also absolutely natural that, after paying your fee either privately
or through Medicare, you are denied the service you paid for because your
behaviour is contrary to the will and the superstitions of the people you have
paid. What is important is that stuff like that happens to others, not to you –
and everything is gong to be just fine. Here is a quotation: "It's kind of a bad
deal for smokers, but for everybody else it's a good thing there's no smoke,"
Homer Burton, Stevens Hospital patient. ” The “good thing” meaning not even that
you can’t smoke in the hospital, and not even that you can’t smoke within 25
feet from it. It is that you are forcibly discharged even if you comply with the
Gestapo rules. A health Gestapo representative, portrayed in white coat for
effect and “authority” repeats the lies about smoking as routine, further
insulting science and the Hippocratic oath that he probably never took.
And to
paraphrase the reporter who, with a smile, lets the viewer understand that this
umpteenth abuse is as natural as it is unavoidable, we conclude this reporting
by saying that “after all, it’s a hospital, thus a nest of antismoking bastards. What else can you expect?” There is reason why the medical class always sided
with totalitarian regimes, and this is confirmation. What we have to do is take
the power away from it – difficult to do, but not impossible.

Getting rid of the last obstacle
- While it is well known that we do not subscribe to any of the superstitions
about smoking, we always said that
there is no doubt that the way to make a cigarette safer is to increase its
level of nicotine contents. There is a lot of solid research and real
science behind this statement – science that it is now suppressed because
pharmaceutical interests dictate that public health serves them, and not the
public. Before its recent political about face, even
the US Institute of Medicine, in a voluminous report of 2003, said that more
nicotine in cigarettes is what it takes.
It is now clear
that the opposite will happen, making cigarettes a truly dangerous product.
Recently we even made a bet with our readership that the “public health”
criminals will take this direction to benefit both Philip Morris and Big Pharma,
producers of nicotine delivery devices. After the political buyout of the
Institute of Medicine there is just one more obstacle to overcome for the
antismoking gangsters: Andrew von Eschenbach, FDA commissioner, who recently
stated that
"We could find ourselves in the conundrum of having made a decision about
nicotine only to have made the public health radically worse. And that is not
the position FDA is in; we approve products that enhance health, not destroy
it."
: Andrew von Eschenbach is yet another naïve individual, who still thinks that
his job is to achieve actual public health. Wake up and smell the passive smoke,
Andrew. Do not forget that, within the antismoking ideology, the slightest
dissent cannot be allowed, and the dissenter is to be eliminated. It is
therefore just a matter of how to politically eliminate von Eschenbach, and one
of the last obstacles to the triumphant march of the “public health” criminals
towards the physical slaughter of smokers in the name of pharmaceutical
interests.
How to do that?
By intelligently attacking him from another angle. 'FDA commissioner Andrew
von Eschenbach took a tongue-lashing from members of Congress over the way his
agency handled Avandia, the diabetes drug from GlaxoSmithKline that has come
under scrutiny for alleged heart attack risks. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-California),
chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, called the Food
and Drug Administration's role in monitoring Avandia's safety after it went on
the market "a major failure of our system." '
Guess what:
Waxman is, along with Senator Edward Kennedy, one of the pushers of the FDA regulation of
cigarettes. And small turds like von Eschenbach certainly cannot stand in
the way of mega-galactic interests such as those of Philip Morris and Big Pharma
itself. A
quick glance to Fortune 500 is sufficient to understand who actually rules the
Unites States, their national “public health” and the “public health” of the
rest of the world.
And you thought that antismoking is for your own good? Are you ever naïve!

Finally, bar owners are wising up to the ETS fraud issue
- It’s long past time, but finally the hospitality industry is waking up to the
fact that it needs to address the whole bogus ETS issue if it’s ever going to
successfully fight smoking bans.
In Colorado,
Lisa Fender, and her colleagues at the Coalition for Equal Rights (CER) are not
only using the arguments of failed businesses and the need to preserve freedom
of choice – but are also exposing the paucity of evidence about the dangers of
so-called ETS and the very reasonable option of ventilation solutions as an
alternative to smoking bans.
“We have over forty studies - including a major one by OSHA [Occupational
Safety and Health Administration] - that debunk anti-smoking allegations of
environmental tobacco smoke,” said Fender. “It's an important issue
because the only reason any of these bans are legal is through the ‘harmful to
others' clause in Fourteenth Amendment.”
Resistance to the Colorado smoking ban has been significant, with many
businesses participating in a civil disobedience campaign launched earlier this
year.
You’re on the right track, Colorado bar owners! Light (up) the way for the
others….
Disintegration of the culture

Eliminating the competition while charging $1,500 a head
- When a particular group of citizens is targeted, one of the most important
things to do is to erode their sense of unity and their
cultural solidity. Of course we are stating nothing that Machiavelli did not
write already in his masterpiece The Prince. In the case of smokers we can see
the social disintegration at work with the prohibition of assembly, for example,
and with the attack on their self esteem by public humiliation – smoking outside
and at a distance from buildings, for example. But a good despot who knows what
is doing must do more than that: he must destroy the target’s culture. So, that is what Canadian “public health” has set out to do with Indians. The
last lesson from Machiavelli is that -- of course -- the cultural disintegration
must be implemented under the guise of “help”.
And that is
how we come to this piece “Healing centre to help native smokers quit”. Just
read the first lines: “Twenty tobacco-addicted First Nations people
will become the inaugural participants in a revolutionary residential treatment
program to quit smoking. The Tobacco Healing Centre, scheduled to open
today near
Ottawa, touts
an 80-per-cent quit rate and will handle up to 1,500 smokers a year.”
It goes without saying that the “health” scum knows full well that smoking has
been in the Indian culture since time immemorial – to say nothing of the
nonsense about health and addiction. On the other hand, it certainly not the
fist time in Canadian history when Indians are “helped” through forced
“education”, relocation and other “humanitarian” actions that had the intent of
destroying their culture. The practical end here is that the Indians are
nations, and as such, they can produce and sell tobacco without the criminal
restrictions imposed by the healthist Canadian state. The quit-rate reported
in the article is, of course, false and actually ridiculous (83% of 23
people!!!) , but what is interesting is the frequency of the critical words used
by the criminals to make you believe that smoking is a disease that needs “help”
to “heal” you from “addiction”. This kind of Soviet-style verbal hammering
brainwashing has been highlighted in this PDF version to make you see the
technique used to associate their fraud with your
beliefs. Don’t fall for it!

Fighting the social disintegration
- Soon to be a correspondent of the FORCES Multimedia project, Michelle Gervais
from Ontario has set out to relieve the segregation of her smoking colleagues,
who have been progressively pushed out of their offices into the smoking room
first, then out of the smoking room outdoors, then away from the buildings and
now… who knows. We actually do know: the health scum wants them erased from
society – so the only thing to do is to work hard to erase the health scum
from society instead with open social warfare, exactly like our enemies do:
in short, make their lives impossible. In the meantime, Michelle highlights
exactly what “public health” wants to destroy: the social camaraderie of which
squalid antismokers are extremely envious. And you’ll never know:
there are many of them, they may decide to rebel and defend themselves;
let’s break up their meeting places!

Heart study suggests an upside to obesity
- What is the definition of paradox? The
On Line dictionary reports four possible descriptions, but it seems to us
that one is missing. The missing definition is, perhaps, the must current of
them all: “An observation that goes against what has been portrayed by
‘public health’ as a scientific reality that, however, was never scientifically
proven”.
Amongst the
modern “paradoxes” are smokers who actually use far less hospitals and medicines
than non smokers do -- contrary to the belief portrayed as
science that smoking is bad for you. Also, the number of heavy-duty smokers
who manage to live to well over 100 years of age being far more numerous than that of non
smokers. Let’s not forget masses of people who, in general, do not have a
“correct” lifestyle who end up being far healthier then those who believe and
live according to the BS postulated by “public health”. Of course the
scientific/statistical evidence of all that is swept under the rug, forgotten
and removed from libraries because we must believe the credo of pharma-public
health. The latest is this study, showing that “Among men with symptoms
of heart disease, those who are obese tend to live longer than their
normal-weight counterparts”. How long before this study disappears as well
because it is contrary to the Lysenkoist of the ministries of health? Not long, you
can count on it. But we will keep a copy, and it will be listed in the New
Evidence Portal as soon as it goes on line.

Will we ever learn from history? Don’t fall for it again. It has nothing to do
with your health: “public health” is Nazi-Marxism
- Once upon a time there were distinctions between totalitarian regimes:
Communism was different than Nazism on the basis of ideology, although the
methods were identical. Now that we have replaced the cross with the no smoking
sign, God with “public health” and real scientific facts with opinion
attributions, we can get rid of the ideology altogether and keep just the
methods and the techniques, happily marrying Hitler with Stalin.
This site,
apparently hosted by a Czech refugee, deals with a 1977 pamphlet issued by the
Communist Czech government in response to demands for civil liberties by
dissidents, including Vaclav Havel. After translating the official response, he
goes on to analyze its content showing how it applies the official techniques of
Communism towards dissenters. See if this sounds familiar to those who follow
the smoking and environmental frauds:
-
“They try
to convey the message that the opposition doesn't exist.”
-
“If the
opposition exists, it is composed of unsuccessful or dead bodies who have
been defeated decades ago.”
-
“The
members of the opposition are painted as being controlled by others,
usually by demonized sources of power, with hints of corruption; a
connection -- even indirect connection -- with these ultimate ‘sources of
evil’ is presented as a complete proof of wrongness.”
-
“Opposition gets badges that are meant to be derogatory: capitalist,
Zionist, deniers, renegades, contrarians... oil-funded, etc.”
[Replace
that with smokers, addicts, deniers, sick, tainted, etc.]
-
“Opposition is presented as being against all the people - and all the
people should agree and do agree with that; statements that everyone
agrees and everyone keeps on supporting the official position are repeated
all the time.”
-
“The
opposition members are criticized for their very existence and for the
tiniest deviations from the official ideology to assure everyone else that
one simply can't join them if one wants to survive.”
[Hello,
Dr. Siegel!]
-
“Opposition is claimed to misrepresent words and facts even though it is
pretty obvious that it is the official party who is doing that.”
-
“The
opposing individuals are deconstructed one by one by carefully-crafted ad
hominem attacks”.
-
“The
propaganda openly states that a debate or a dialogue itself is
unacceptable and no details of the opponents' opinions are ever analyzed.”
-
“Whenever
it's possible, the opponents must be fired or otherwise harassed...”
They used to
dress in red. They used to dress in black. Now they dress in white. But they are
still the same.

Smoking ban High Court challenge
-
"A group challenging the legality of the smoking ban has given the Government
a ‘last chance’ to consider amendments or face them in the High Courts. Lawyers
acting on behalf of Freedom to Choose have written to Health Secretary Patricia
Hewitt and the Attorney General giving them 14 days to respond to their concerns
or they will request a judicial review of the ban. The infringement of human
rights is something everyone feels very strongly about and we are not going to
go away. Jaswinder Gill, from law firm Ormerods, said the group’s challenge will
be based on what it sees as infringements of human rights."
The group is

If you act you get
– Once again, the moment smokers act instead of whining and stop telling each
other how bad it is they get what they want. This is certainly the case in this
Norwegian town, where it has been decided that total smoking prohibition is
contrary to human rights, as “the right to smoke was
part of the right to a private life”. Excellent, the way it should be – are you listening, United States? But not even
that is enough. The right to smoke is part of the right to public life
too, as it has been for centuries. Smoking does not harm anyone except – perhaps
and not demonstrably – those who smoke. The lack of acceptance of smoking by
some should not represent a problem for the smoker, only for
the intolerant. We better put this through our heads first: that the
non-smoker/antismoker does not have superior rights whatsoever, and that we
cannot be responsible for his emotional problems. So it is time to recapture
our rights with whatever it takes – in short, to get back the “level playing
field” we are entitled to in the name of that political correctness that has
created the silly sound bite.
How’s that for going back to a
straight line?

Son of A Smoking Ban
– As England will have a smoking ban in a few days, one lawyer is
“warning” (read: he’s trying to lobby for)
smoking
“exclusion zones” to address the “problems” expected to arise because of
the congregation of smokers outside buildings. Among the concerns is
“smoke blowing back inside buildings,” according to this crafty
anti-smoking zealot disguised as a disinterested legal observer. Of
course, once there are smoking exclusion zones that forbid people from
lighting up within a certain distance of buildings, people will do their
smoking further away from the buildings, leading to the creation of
another “problematic” zone at a somewhat greater distance from the
building. This will of course have to be addressed by an extension of the
“exclusion zone” until smokers are in effect prevented from lighting up
anywhere in the open air. Meanwhile the diesel trucks will roar by…. We
must keep repeating it … this isn’t about health, it’s about persecuting
people.

Biased and partial report damns BBC’s “culture of bias”
–
The Romans used to say “asinus asinum fricat” (the jackass talks back to
the jackass) to indicate the hypocrisy of those who badmouth shortcomings in
others that they themselves have. That sure seems to be the case of this BBC
report done on BBC itself. We read:
“The BBC is institutionally biased, an
official report will conclude this week. The year-long investigation,
commissioned by the BBC, has found the corporation particularly partial in its
treatment of single-issue politics such as climate change, poverty, race and
religion. It concludes that the bias has extended across drama, comedy and
entertainment, with the corporation pandering to politically motivated
celebrities and trendy causes.”
Indeed, we could not agree more. The report
goes on mentioning a few examples, from poverty to conventional politics to show
biz.
But what is
astutely left out is what matters a lot. What about representing ONLY the
“public health” side of the antismoking fraud, for example? What about giving
credibility to fraudulent figures on the “obesity” epidemic? What about
completely ignoring activities and evidence against Pharma-public health? To say
nothing of silencing the opposition of those citizens who smoke, drink and are
fat, do not feel guilty about that and fight back. The BBC seems to subscribe to
the fascist ideology that anything concerning "public health" institutions and
diktats is above all comment or debate. Wrong, BBC. A large chunk of the
people does not want to conform to that and it will not, and your duty
is to report that too, not just be an instrument of regime propaganda.
The BBC has
been formally contacted and informed of the false information
spread by the National Health System against smoking and smokers, including the
(junk) science on passive smoking. The BBC has been made aware that it is
disseminating hatred against smokers – to the point that NHS antismoking
commercials have been forbidden by the Advertising Authority. So the BBC is
AWARE of the institutional problem going on in England and in the world – a
problem so dangerous and serious that it threatens the freedom of all and
undermines the credibility of the state at the foundations. Yet, BBC (like other
mass media in the world) ignores the message thus absolutely denies the
existence of this problem. Instead it consciously cooperates with the
institutional fraud by representing the “public health” con work on smoking
and other lifestyles as the only credible and respectable source of information. It also (quite rarely) represents opposition as biased, weak or irrelevant.
All that – of
course – is not mentioned in the biased BBC report on the bias itself.
Nevertheless, BBC dear, a criminal is not just he breaks into an apartment, but
also (and especially) who holds his ladder. Start acknowledging that “public
health” is dishonest and then we can begin to believe you again, although just
a little bit.

Angel
Cabrera won the U.S. Open by one stroke over Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk,
becoming the only golfer in the tournament to shoot below par twice.
Cabrera, who had never won a tournament in this country, is a resident of
Argentina, which could explain why he puffed away unabashedly between shots.
While golf is not known for the stringent physical regimen associated with
other sports, it is never the less inspirational that a man whom
anti-tobacco teaches us to hate aced out the hyper physically fit Tiger
Woods.
Because we
don't have a photograph of Angel Cabrera smoking we include a photo of
another golfer who, like Cabrera, refuses to knuckle under the pressure of
the control freaks.
John Daly
is never without a cigarette dangling from his lips on the links throughout
the world of professional golfing. His entire life is a repudiation of the
"anti" mentality folk who preach self-denial and inculcate a morbid fear of
life and death. Wile Cabrera was smoking the fairways Sunday, Daly was the
subject of a 60 Minutes piece that, mirable dictu, didn't deteriorate into
an anti-smoking lecture. Quite a day for the smokers in the sports world.

Anti-tobacco operative, dead at 64 |

Anti-tobacco lawyer dies young
–
It's
with a great sense of irony that we report the death of an anti-tobacco
operative who made a very good living suing tobacco companies. Judith D.
Wilkenfeld died last weekend of cancer. She was 64 years old and did not
smoke.
Wilkenfeld
began her career of making smokers miserable by suing Brown & Williamson in
1985 while working for the Federal Trade Commission. She beefed up her
anti-tobacco bona fides five years later by taking on R.J. Reynolds Co. over
the cigarette manufacturer's advertising that disputed the health risks of
smoking. Since the so-called health risks have never been proven
scientifically and are merely fictions derived from flawed epidemiologic
studies, Wilkenfeld's action against RJR is an early example of anti-tobacco
stifling free speech.
Wilkenfeld's fealty to the pharmaceutical industry was rewarded during the
Clinton Administration when she was invited into the Food and Drug
Administration as a special advisor for tobacco policy while the agency
illegally crafted rules and regulations governing tobacco. After the
Supreme Court ruled the FDA had exceeded its authority by regulating tobacco
Wilenfeld raked in the big bucks by becoming the vice president of
international programs at the nonprofit Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. In
that capacity she led negotiations for the global framework treaty on
tobacco. When the United States refused to ratify the treaty she
bad-mouthed her country and the government that had facilitated her entry in
the anti-tobacco rackets.
Wilkenfeld
was a dedicated runner and enjoyed working out. We hope she is missed by
her family and friends since her impact on the world in her professional
capacity was completely negative. After decades of railing against "Big
Tobacco" and concocting policy measures that denigrate, persecute and
demonize smokers we can't shed a tear over her premature death. We can, and
do, have pity on her for enthusiastically rolling in the dirt and mire that
is anti-tobacco.
Smoking bans bad for business

The verdict is in: smoking bans hurt the hospitality
business
–
We all know
the drill. When a smoking ban is proposed anti-tobacco releases a survey
that shows a high percentage, generally 75 to 80%, of the affected
population supports banning smoking in all restaurants and bars.
Anti-tobacco prophesizes that patronage for restaurants and bars that are no
longer allowed to permit smoking will increase as non-smokers flock to
venues they formerly avoided. Bar and restaurant owners, as opposed to the
hospitality industry groups, always strongly oppose government intervention
into their smoking policies.
After the
ban is passed and enacted, over the protests of individual owners but often
with the support of the hospitality industry groups, anti-tobacco releases
new surveys that claim business is booming because smoking is forbidden.
Bar and restaurant owners inevitably cite lower patronage rates and plunging
revenues. Their reports are quite reliable since many establishments risk
fines by continuing to allow smoking so that their entire customer base
doesn't disappear.
The hordes of nonsmokers never seem to materialize.
David W.
Kuneman years ago was struck by the disconnect between anti-tobacco
propagandists and the businesses that bitterly opposed smoking bans.
Determined to find out the truth he sifted through the the data provided by
the United States Department of Commerce. The data, he found, backs up the
business owners and discredits the sunny prognostications of smoking ban
crowd.

The turnip truck of state

It's no secret that
President Bush's approval ratings are in the toilet. What hasn't been
highlighted, however, is that Congress's approval ratings make Bush's look
like accolades. It's a sad fact that people of all political
persuasions are fed up with the "same old, same old" that is Washington, DC.
Normal Kjono takes time to write to his representative and one of his
senators, both members of the political party now in charge, to express
disappointment that the culture of special interests still holds sway.
From the never-ending Iraq war to the continuing demonization of those who
smoke, the politicians persist in promoting the goals of rich interests,
such as anti-tobacco and the pharmaceutical industry, over the interests of
the residents of the United States. Approval ratings indicate
political subservience to odious special interests groups is a recipe for
another housecleaning next year. Politicians who refuse to represent
those who sent them to Washington do so at their peril.

Appalled but not surprised
–
Gian Turci, CEO of
FORCES International, weighs in on the trashing of property rights in
California. Disgusted but not surprised at the revolting turn of
events, Mr. Turci places the blame squarely where it is deserved: on us.
Yes, anti-tobacco has been working strenuously for years to batter down the
door that separates the home from "the public." Yes, anti-tobacco, its
pharmaceutical patrons and corrupt politicians have promulgated the fraud
that secondhand smoke is deadly. That said, the responsibility for
maintaining freedom is with the governed and we, the people, have been
asleep at the wheel for too long. At a time of unbelievable prosperity
and comfort we amuse ourselves with our gadgets and trust that government
will keep the ship of state afloat without bothering us. Wrong!
The nature of us humans is to push and shove our way to the top of the heap
and those who do make that arduous trek are inevitably consumed with the
notion that they, not the common people, are best suited to run society and
everyone's lives. We let them get a way with it and we have it in our
power to stop the control freaks in their tracks.

Anti-smoker slashes wife
–
A
birthday celebration turned extremely ugly as a husband severed his wife's
tongue and windpipe after an argument over her smoking. She will recover
but doctors do not now know whether the reattachment of her tongue will
prove successful. The husband is in jail, charged with attempted murder.
Both are licensed as respiratory care practitioners and employed at a St.
Paul Minnesota hospital, a profession and location that is rife with
anti-smoking propaganda.
Without
excusing the husband's despicable act it is crucial that anti-tobacco not be
left off the hook. For decades anti-tobacco, financed by pharmaceutical
interests, has conducted a campaign of hate against smokers. One cannot
watch television, listen to radio or read a newspaper without ingesting the
notion that smokers are disgusting and that they are killing nonsmokers.
The message also states that all available means must be brought to
eliminate smoking. The enraged husband wielding a knife against his smoking
wife is still an aberration but each year his ilk becomes more prevalent.
He should base his defense on mental duress caused by the constant messages
of hate he receives from anti-tobacco and his wife should sue the purveyors
of hate who justify her husband's violent, ant-smoker act.

Dieters Snap Up New Drug Alli, Despite Nasty Side Effects.
Well,
here it is . . . Nicorrette and NicoDerm CQ distributor GlaxoSmithKline’s
over-the-counter retail new diet pill, Alli. Now smacking around the
fat ones to sell more drugs can begin in earnest, the campaign brewing
well-developed a decade of experience with pushing smokers to munch nicotine
gum in place of enjoying a smoke. Consumers are reportedly lapping
ALLI up in record numbers. A fat blocker, the pill has a remarkable
side effect: take a pill, eat high fat foods, and crap your pants. We
can hear the workplace gossip at Advanced Social Marketing Concepts already
. . . “Did you see the brown patch on Mary’s pants when she got
up to leave the staff meeting? Oh
my God!” “Yup,” John comments, “I was wonderin’ what
the smell was during the meeting, damn near made my eyes water!”
Alice
holds her nose and says, “I just thought someone laid a supreme SBD!”
Human Resources Director Pristine C. Clean rolls her eyes and chimes in,
“But the smell was roses compared to the reek of filthy tobacco smoke!
Now you understand why I advocate such progressive work policies as smoking
bans. By the way, everyone should try Alli. After all, it’s the
“Healthy Lifestyles” thing to do and is included as an approved drug on our
new corporate health plan!” What marvellous staff meetings those
employees can look forward to. Rumor has it that the Alli Starter Kit
box includes discount coupons for ten boxes of Depends. The preceding
should be a breath of fresh air for Pristine Clean. She doesn’t even need to
take the time to worry about someone lighting up in the next county to crap
her drawers in abject fear about death from heart attack in 30 seconds or
less. She can now comfortably drop a load in the privacy of her own
office by taking the latest pharmaceutical pill in Social Marketing fads.
Now there’s efficiency! Boy howdy, things could get downright
interesting if ALLI is introduced as a nasal spray.

Turning the tide

A
small step towards decency and sanity occurred in Wales as a health
authority allows the erection of smoking shelters for hospital patients and
visitors. Although such a step falls short of the goal of
reintroducing smoking sections within hospitals, the Welch are to be
congratulated for recognizing that in the real world people smoke, including
patients of the tax-payer financed hospitals. The compassion shown in
Wales is in marked contrast to health authorities in Scotland who are
demolishing shelters and forbidding the construction of new ones.

Next target on the list
–
The
slippery slope argument never gets the respect that it deserves. The reason
people dismiss it is could be due to the inability of decent people to link
disparate behaviors into a chain of escalating oppression. Perhaps it is
just too abstract for busy people to spend much time fretting over as they
busy themselves with the business of living. Of course the crack down on
various politically incorrect activities really isn't so much about
behaviors as it is about controlling individuals as an end itself.
Eliminating
smoking, for instance, will not change the aggregate health of our society
in the least. More people, including smokers, live longer now than during
any time in the past. Those who concocted the anti-tobacco agenda know that
their efforts, even if 100 percent successful, won't improve health, as
indeed their own "scientific" research confirms. Why then are highly placed
components of society so vested in attacking one rather innocuous activity?
Obviously there is money to be made off the anti-smoking rackets but overall
the primary purpose behind the drive to alter behavior is to soften up
people into taking orders from "those who know best."
Ted Byfield
takes a look at the latest smoking ban proposal and finds much to worry
himself. He doesn't smoke but he does enjoy an adult beverage from time to
time and he knows that that behavior will soon be as demonized as is
smoking. He expresses his fears, with tongue somewhat in cheek, by noting
that the crackdown, when it comes, will be directed against the elderly
rather than just against the behavior. He is right. The ever-growing list
of behaviors attracting the attention of the social engineers will soon
encompass everyone. When everything enjoyable is forbidden the
target group becomes everyone. That is the goal and the slippery slope
became a cliff decades ago.
