INFECTIOUS AVENUES TO CANCERBy Don GanemPreface by FORCES The barking of the anti-tobacco cartel on smoking causing cancer is without proof. In a regressive time when public opinion and political forces are guided more by myth, blind hysteria, and political convenience than by reason and scientific truthfulness, disagreement with the tobacco/cancer dogma becomes a costly proposition. Nevertheless, the facts stand: the statement that smoking causes cancer is false. Should we then say, among the defensive, patronizing smiles of arrogant, over-paid, and sometimes corrupted Ph.D.s, or among the rabid loathing of those who need excuses to cash in money and propel hatred, that smoking does not cause cancer? That would be false too, since we do not know what causes cancer, for we do not know how cancer works. All we have are random, unreliable, and too often politically manipulated statistical associations. Infectious Avenues to Cancer by Don Ganem has nothing to do with the smoking persecution. The book proposes, with solid speculative foundations, that cancer is an infection. This theory has advanced tremendously among serious scientists in recent years. But if indeed cancer is of infectious nature, what does smoking have to do with it? Wouldn't the infectious nature explain the irregular pattern of cancer in smokers and non-smokers alike? Wouldn't that also explain why while some non-smokers get lung cancer, many chain smokers do not? Why the overwhelming majority of smokers does not get lung cancer, regardless of the amount smoked? Maybe smoking is a catalyst for cancer -- maybe not. But persecuting smokers based on assumptions and vague, non-repeatable circumstantial evidence; forcing tobacco manufacturers to print on cigarette packages "smoking causes cancer"; changing legislations for the sole purpose of looting an industry; instigating hatred and fear into non-smokers based on gargantuan lies such as secondhand smoke's "toxicity"; all that is not simply wrong, but is irresponsible -- and criminal -- because there is no proof. Besides the obvious financial and political gains, the geometrical acceleration of the anti-tobacco cartel towards total prohibition at a global scale maybe explained by the fear of the cartel that maybe -- soon -- real science may discover that smoking has nothing to do with cancer. If this would be proven while the repression of tobacco is still in high gear, utter political demise and even jail would await thousands of individuals. This book will help the reader to understand cancer better, not just within the limitations of his/her knowledge, but within the relative ignorance, and progress, of science. And maybe the next time the reader will see a smoker taking a cigarette from the pack and read "smoking causes cancer", he/she will have a better understanding that the people who are forcing the manufacturers to print that message ultimately do not have much more knowledge about the origin of cancer than the smoker who just lit up.
