The Nazi War on Cancer Robert N. Proctor, 1999 "Professor Proctor has written a compelling and wonderfully readable account of how Nazi physicians confronted cancer. Sophisticated research went with racial megalomania, as German researchers targeted diet, occupation, smoking, and radium as cancer-inducing. Understanding the Nazi politics of medical research and disease eradication is both haunting and instructive for modern efforts to overcome cancer." ISBN: 0-691-00196-0 |

A
Critique of Nicotine Addiction
Hanan Frenk and Reuven Dar, Dept. of Psychology, Tel Aviv University, Israel Nicotine is almost universally believed to be the major factor that motivates smoking and impedes cessation. Authorities such as the Surgeon General of the USA and the Royal College of Physicians in the UK have declared that nicotine is as addictive as heroin and cocaine. This book is a critique of the nicotine addiction hypothesis, based on a critical review of the research literature that purports to prove that nicotine is as addictive drug. The review is based on a re-examination of more than 700 articles and books on this subject, including animal and human experimental studies, effects of `nicotine replacement therapies', and many other relevant sources. This review concludes that on present evidence, there is every reason to reject the generally accepted theory that nicotine has a major role in cigarette smoking. A critical examination of the criteria for drug addiction demonstrates that none of these criteria is met by nicotine, and that it is much more likely that nicotine in fact limits rather than facilitates smoking. Addiction is a Choice by Jeffrey Schaler, Ph.D. "[Addiction] is not a disease. And it is not involuntary. And it is not a thing that causes people to engage in certain behaviors. The conventional wisdom is that the availability of drugs causes people to use them. That's one of the big arguments that is used to support what I call 'the war on people,' 'the war on drugs.' And the conventional wisdom is also that if you use 'addicting drugs,' you will not be able to moderate your use of those drugs [or] stop using those drugs." Click here for review. ISBN: 0812694031 |

The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America by Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt "Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt has put together the most formidable and practical compilation of documentation describing the well-planned 'deliberate dumbing down' of American children by their education system. Anyone who has had any lingering hope that what the educators have been doing is a result of error, accident, or stupidity will be shocked by the way American social engineers have systematically gone about destroying the intellect of millions of American children for the purpose of leading the American people into a socialist world government controlled by behavioral and social scientists."
