We never really appreciate anything until we
lose it.
I was raised in a houseful of smokers and
have smoked for more than fifty years. Over the years there have always been
a few people who complained about the smell, and I adjusted my association
with these people accordingly.
In the workplace I made sure I didn't put a
person who didn't like smoking close to one who smoked, and my school in
Alaska was the first to have a nonsmoking area. This was before the
nonsmoking radicals started their movement.
We are now being bombarded with
unsubstantiated advertisements saying second hand smoke causes everything
from hang-nails to hernias. Having spent many dollars and years acquiring an
education, I KNOW these facts cannot be supported scientifically. I then ask
myself why anyone would want to brainwash the public into believing these
ridiculous claims, and who is paying for all the false advertisements?
If any of you readers have any information or
opinions regarding this question, I would appreciate your response. Just
click on my picture and enlighten me.
Scientifically speaking there is no way
anyone can support any statements regarding the effects of second-hand smoke
or smoking on our population without separating out the affects of exhaust
from cars, busses, airplanes, trucks, fireplaces, barbeques, furnaces, etc.
etc. And there is no way to isolate a control group from these exterior
influences.
What we can scientifically and physically
prove regarding smoking and second hand smoke is that each of these radicals
who drive a car pollutes the air every time they start those cars more than
100 smokers.
We can do this by placing 100 smokers in an
enclosed area for an hour - smoking constantly, and then placing 100 of
these radicals in the same area with just ONE of their cars running.
After this experiment is completed, we can
have an independent mortician analyze the results and compile conclusions.
If this experiment is conducted enough times
to scientifically prove the results, I believe the number of erroneous
commercials we are subjected to will be decreased dramatically.
