I would like to thank all you readers
responding to my articles. If some of you had your e-mail returned please
resubmit them. We are attempting to set up a larger incoming box.
When I initially started writing these
articles, it was because I needed to vent my anger regarding the new smoking
ban in Washington State. Since that time I have released enough steam that I
can address the problem on an intellectual basis.
I have visited with many non-smokers and
businesses who are also very offended by this new law. The non-smokers are
offended because they realize, ultimately, every time we relinquish one of
our freedoms; we are relinquishing a portion of the whole “freedom package”.
The businesses are angry because they realize (too late) that this law is
dramatically affecting their net profit.
There is a portion of our society (holier
than the rest of us) who strives to elevate the rest of us to their level.
What they do not take into account is that even God gave us just 10
commandments; and, with these commandments, he gave us the right to choose.
The second mistake made by this group is the possibility that, rather than
giving up smoking in the business establishments, the smokers might choose
to quit spending their money in establishments which do not allow smoking.
I continue to believe the new smoking ban is
unconstitutional and can be attacked on two fronts. As law-abiding, tax
paying citizens, each of has certain rights. I believe this smoking ban is
unconstitutional. As business owners, I believe each of us has the right to
decide the rules of our establishments, and any time a state or federal
organization tries to dictate how our businesses are ran, or what behavior
is acceptable or unacceptable in our business; they are violating our
constitutional rights.
Thank you again, for all your nice e-mails.
