Every year, about
this time, my grandkids are running around, giggling, and passing
out valentines. Nanna always picks-up some cute little hearts and
passes them out. Being a crusty old battle hardened veteran of
Valentines Day, I attempt to maintain my aloofness.
Last year, when
asked by my youngest grandson why Nanna always passes out the
valentines, I sat down and created the below valentine for my
grandkids.
I have had be
privilege of being present when my four youngest grandkids were
born, and borrowing a custom from the American Natives, I gave each
of them my special nickname. The first born was Haley, who I
christened Weasel face. The second born was Kurtis, who became
Monkey face. The third was Kelly, my Poopsie Baby, and finally,
Derek Joel, the Skunk phew.
The following is
the valentine I created for these creatures:
THE CREATURES IN NANNA AND PAPA’S
HOUSE
I have a scary story to tell,
And I swear it’s really true.
Our house has become infested,
And we don’t know what to do!
It started with a Weasel Face,
As cute as she could be.
She crawled across the carpet,
And perched upon my knee.
Next appeared a Monkey Face,
With beautiful blue eyes.
He chased the cats down the hall,
And uttered little, piercing cries.
Then came a Poopsie Baby,
With a smile so soft and sweet.
She didn’t enjoy taking naps,
But she swept me off my feet.
A Skunk Phew was the last one in,
With a smile and a giggle.
He just can’t seem to sit still,
He always has to wiggle.
I said this was a scary story,
And this is the scary part!
First they snuck into the house,
Then they climbed into our heart.
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO ALL!!!
