From birth in North Carolina's Duke University, a great school built by a tobacco fortune, to present employment in the public health establishment, Enoch Ludlow has been linked to tobacco and the war against its use for a good portion of his life.

As a resident of San Francisco he is a front row observer of government health hysteria and the disastrous consequences of its usurpation of American liberty.

Progressive tyranny - "Genuine civil libertarians have found the paradox of a gay leadership hell bent on extinguishing personal freedom quite baffling. A ranking of unpopular groups in America most surely would place gay people near the bottom of the heap. It is as

From stonewall to lavender swastikas - "Genuine civil libertarians have found the paradox of a gay leadership hell bent on extinguishing personal freedom quite baffling. A ranking of unpopular groups in America most surely would place gay people near the bottom of the heap. It is astonishing that a group so persecuted for millennia would enthusiastically embark on its own agenda of oppression the first moment it gains even a minor seat at the table of power. How is it that these gay politicos seem unable to grasp that when the rounding up of undesirables begins, they will be the first to go?"

Reason, not violence - "We must strongly reject calls to violence in order to ensure that, ultimately, we will win this struggle. Although we have no money, little media support and precious little access to the politicians, we do have the tools to beat the anti-smokers and obliterate their poisonous agenda."

Tears for Glantz - "Even a staunch advocate of personal liberty would be hard pressed not to feel pity for anti-smoker maven Stanton Glantz as he inflicts his lugubrious anti-settlement road show act on an American public whose indifference to his message of disaster is total. On the day the settlement was announced, television screens framed the disheveled University of California professor as he moaned and groaned his poignant threnody of the betrayal of his lifetime goal of eliminating smoking. Pasty faced, his pudgy visage lined with sorrow, he appeared on the verge of weeping with chagrin over a deal in which he played no part. Even his brown teeth looked ready to drop with fatigue."

New crimes created to control the American public - "A legislator in a state beset by serious problems recently crafted a bill to prohibit the operation of cellular phones in moving vehicles. The explicit intent is to protect the public from harm but the implicit motivation is made clear by the following key sentence: 'Because a violation of this prohibition [using a cellular phone while driving] would be a crime, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program by creating a NEW CRIME.' The officious sentiment expressed in this bill illustrates why satire is a dying art in America."

A spoonful of sugar makes the fascism go down - Read about the melodramatic statements of the most anti-American president of all times. Totally sold to the antismoking cartel and its falsification of evidence, Bill Clinton and its Administration -- the same who imposed the Communications Decency Act -- do not hesitate to walk all over the liberties and the values of what was once a great Country. For the rest of the world, this is a profound example of how easily social values conquered with blood through the centuries can degenerate into persecution when the wrong people are at the helm.
