Smokers, eaters and drinkers are endlessly accused of being a “cost to society”, and their “cost” is computed by “experts” who manage to shell out ever-growing numbers. Aside from the fact that those categories of people ARE society, those “costs” stem from the same cheating mentality that has nothing to do with science and facts and everything to do with making the figures square with the politics. The contribution of smokers through tobacco taxes, for example, is routinely ignored; but that is certainly not the only thing that is ignored. As it is so often the case with those who accuse, the accuser is guilty. In reality non smokers “cost to society” far more than smokers – and that is one of the very reasons why the medicare system of the West are collapsing. This compendium of studies and articles explains why non-smokers are a serious burden to society.
