An Open Letter To The Minnesota Legislature

Leonard Spencer is a citizen of Minnesota and has written an eloquent and forceful open letter to the legislators and governor of that state. It is a letter with a reach far beyond Minnesota though, both in the strength and emotion behind what he says, in its frequent applicability to bans everywhere, and in his call for citizens to recognize the importance of the damage done by the bans and by the destructive propaganda campaigns that treat smokers as less than human. Read Leonard’s words and whether you’re a Minnesotan or not, consider passing them along to your local legislators along with your own thoughts.

Outdoor Smoking Bans

Are becoming popular. The anti’s are not content with indoor bans, now they want the outdoors too! The goal, of course, is to ban smoking everywhere.

Atlanta, GA., is considering it. If you smoke and live in Atlanta time to speak up.
Bad News

For roll-your-own cigarettes. Congress passed a law which would tax tobacco at the same rate of brand cigarettes.

The government is so desperate for revenue they continue to harass smokers instead of the general public, especially in an election year. Smokers don’t complain so they are easy targets.
Ottawa

Ottawa’s outdoor smoking ban began this week, threatening a $305 fine on anyone who lights up on city property, parks, and beaches, as well as restaurant and bar patios.

Outdoor patios were built for smokers, and there is no scientific evidence that outdoor smoking causes harm. This is pure hatred of smokers that the anti-smoking establishments have created over the last twenty years.
Ohio

Ohio depends on $1.2 billion dollars from tobacco usuage. Ohio relies heavily on smokers to both aid the general revenue fund and pay off bondholders to the tune of about $18 billion through 2052.

That’s that problem for every state. They initiate smoking bans and lose tobacco revenues then complain about it.
New Yorkers For Beverage Choices

Don’t let Mayor Bloomberg ban beverages over 16 ounces in NYC! Mayor Bloomberg is proposing to ban sales of sugar-sweetened beverages over 16 ounces in New York City. Fountain and bottled beverages over 16 ounces could no longer be sold in restaurants, movie theaters, sports venues, coffee shops, food trucks and street carts.

According to the mayor, New Yorkers need help deciding what size beverage is appropriate.

If this now, what’s next?
