Virginia

The General Assembly in Virginia begins January 11, 2012. Already there is a bill to raise the tax on cigarettes from 30 cents per pack to $1.45 per pack. The bill is HB 160 and the patron is Patrick A. Hope. Call your legislator today and voice your opinion.
E-cigarettes Are Healthier

"Journal of Public Health Policy published this report, compiled by Dr. Micheal Siegel and his team of expert researchers, in which it was confirmed that smoking cigarettes is harmful for the human body, while smoking cheap electric cigarettes is a safe and fruitful way of fulfilling the nicotine cravings in smokers. A single tobacco cigarette is known to contain thousands of highly toxic chemicals, most of which are cancer causing in nature. In comparison, an e cigarette is free from such toxic chemicals and is considered safer for human consumption".

E-cigarettes are being banned along with regular tobacco. It was never about health, it has always been about MONEY. Big Pharma cannot make money off of e-cigarettes, therefor Cancer, Heart and Lung Associations are lobbying to ban them or stop the manufacturing of e-cigarettes.
Emory Univesity

"Emory University implemented a new no smoking policy on its campus to help ring in the new year. The ban, which took effect Jan. 1, goes beyond a basic no-smoking policy and even bans smoking in privately owned vehicles. That means that students, faculty and visitors to either the university or an Emory Healthcare facility will not be able to smoke in their own vehicles".

This is so wrong on so many levels one barely knows where to start, however, in your own car? I think not.

Indiana

The war in Indiana is still continuing in 2012 to ban smoking in all indoor places. There is doubt that it will be passed unless there is an exemption for bars. Voice your opinion with your legislator. You can make a difference!

Free choice is slipping away from the American people, replaced by a nanny dictatorship. Adults can make up their own minds on where they wish to eat and drink or work. Isn’t that the definition of free enterprise?
Smoking and Working

Twenty nine states have laws that protect smoking workers from discrimination by employers. It is time the other states get on board and pass similar laws. An employer does not own your body, you do.

If this discrimination is allowed to continue who’s next? Obese individuals? People with high cholesterol, drinkers, diabetics? This is a slippery road that should not be allowed to continue.
CDC and Pfizer

We are not the only ones who have a problem with a government agency merging with Big Pharma. Welcome Audrey Silk, Founder, Citizens Lobbying Against Smoker Harassment (C.L.A.S.H.) in New York, who now has a blog with the Huffington Post.
And Now The Attorney Generals

Several states and U.S. territories are weighing in on a lawsuit over proposed graphic cigarette warning labels that include a sewn-up corpse of a smoker and a picture of diseased lungs, saying the federal government should be allowed to require the labels for the "lethal and addictive" products.

The 24 attorneys general filed a friend of the court brief on Friday in the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington in support of the Food and Drug Administration’s challenge of a lower court ruling in the case.

We believe this lawsuit will go all the way to the Supreme Court. It is not about tobacco, as far as we are concerned, it is about our Constitution and the First Amendment. If this is allowed there will be the same graphic labels on liquor and fat foods or anything else that is deemed "bad for you". Is this really what a free society wants, a nanny government?

Belgium

Bans do close businesses. Since Belgium introduced a smoking ban in pubs on 1 July over 2,000 public houses have had to close. The figure is 40% up on the same period last year.

The anti’s lie. If a ban is being proposed in your state remember and contact your legislator bans are bad for business!
Debate Not Over

Delaware – There is a trial going on that is debating the "science" on second hand smoke. As we have said many times Epidemology studies do not prove causation.

Texas doctor John Dale Dunn, who maintained studies reflecting second-hand smoke presented a serious health hazard were scientifically flawed and based on "cherry-picked" statistics.

We agree with Dr. Dunn. There may be a ruling next week.
