British journalist Christopher Snowdon is preparing a book on the anti-smoking religion entitled Velvet Glove, Iron Fist. Pre-publication excerpts are available on the internet. Mister Snowdon views the anti-smoking movement historically and critically. He is inviting comments from readers prior to publication. The portions available for download are chapters 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, and 13, as well as two sections of passages about passive smoking, entitled, "Passive Smoking," and "The Evidence." General descriptions of other book portions are also available via links. We recommend all of this material to our readers and we look forward to publication of Mister Snowdon’s book in its final form. Link to the Velvet Glove, Iron Fist web site appears below.
Crack. Fizz. Gulp. Ahhhhhh. Is there a drinking experience more classically Australian than ripping the ring-pull off a beer? "The visceral pleasure from that first crack of a beer can is identical to popping a champagne cork," says wine and drinks writer Mike Bennie. "There's also huge appeal in the tinnie's nostalgia factor."
