While career politicians from both parties frenetically crisscross the United States begging for votes as the presidential primary heats up, they should pause and ponder what their potential consituents do not want.

As the disastrous attempt to expand the State Children’s Health Insurance Program upon the backs of the country’s smokers makes clear, the American people are fed up with punitive schemes to steal money from targeted minorities to pay for programs that benefit all. After President Bush twice vetoed the SCHIP expansion financed by cigarette taxes it became glaringly obvious that the Democrats who proposed expanding coverage on the backs of smokers were dancing to the tune of the pharmaceutical corporations who hope to make billions on smoking cessation snake oil and nostrums.

Norman Kjono gives credit where it is due and offers some excellent advice to those who still haven’t gotten the message.
