The big news no one outside of the insular legal community is talking about is the downfall of Milberg Weiss, a law firm that has profited greatly from the war on smokers.
We’ve heard unendingly from media about the extensive criminal history of the tobacco industry. Some history! With the exception of a smuggling conviction of a unit owned by a tobacco company and an import/export misdemeanor copped to by a supplier of another, the criminal history is pretty damn sparse. Not surprising since this industry is one of the most regulated and scrutinized in the country. It may be unethical, cowardly, unscrupulous and suicidal but with all that law enforcement constantly going through its books, the industry is practically incapable of committing a crime. Not so its enemies.
