If you start scratching your head at the beginning of this piece by Michael Kinsley, you will end up being bald by the time you are through with it.

That is because of the barrage of stupidity and double-faced arguments of this piece about Obama and his smoking – a splendid example of contemporary confusion and intellectual mediocrity.

“It is still okay to discriminate against one group of Americans. This discrimination is not only legal, it is encouraged. You see members of this oppressed minority huddled outside in rain and snow, forbidden to seek refuge. No one feels sorry for them. And yet we may have just elected one of these pariahs as president.”

Correction, Mr. Kinsley. It is not OK to discriminate against American smokers – unless you are a neo-Nazi, that is. The fact that many people agree with you indicates that there is a serious Nazi problem in America, and that it needs to be deat with using the appropriate force. Smokers vastly support an economy driven into bankruptcy due to the faith in virtual numbers that are as real as the tobacco-related mortality – and only deranged schizophrenics take virtual numbers as real.

“Smoking is a disgusting habit that can kill you and those around you.”

Stop the bullshit, Mr. Kinsley. Smoking is an good habit that has distinguished the greatest geniuses, and for which not even one death has ever been proven by science. Come off your hallucinations: the only “deplorable habit” (smoking is so described by Kinsley) is to be ignorant enough to repeat what is being said like a mindless parrot. Why should we trust a person like you to report any news?

But wait, here comes to punch line:

“If Obama actually has accomplished the miracle of giving up cigarettes at the apogee of a presidential race, he should be happy to let us know this and add to his superman image. And if he hasn’t? Well, if he is straight with us about it, we should forgive him. So he’s not a superman. Neither are we.”

Isn’t that touching… for the psychiatrist near you? The “miracle of giving up cigarettes”! Because – please understand! — giving up cigarettes is a good thing!… And if you do so, you are superman! Actually, pre-packaged phrases like that can only come out of super idiots who are dumb enough to believe that “public health” is the only part of the state that has kept itself from rotting all the way to the bone marrow.

But hey, Mr. Kinsley is not without compassion: “if he is straight with us about it, we should forgive him”.

Forgive what? There is nothing to forgive, put that through you thick skull. That is because smoking is not a sin, and there is nothing to be straight about. Obama’s smoking is Obama’s business – and it is certainly not the business of Mr. Kinsley and his ilk, who are arrogant and obtuse enough to judge a statesman from a personal habit.

There is a proverb, somewhere in the world, that describes well the essence of Mr. Kinsley, his herd mentality as well as the tragic mediocrity so very representative of antismokers: “When a turd sits on a throne, it both stinks and it’s prone”.

One of the many benefits of smoking is that it improves mental acuity. We therefore encourage Mr. Kinsley and those he represents to become chain smokers; perhaps, in a couple of decades, he may get to be as smart as a smoker, and thus capable of judging reality for what it is.

Fortunately Mr. Kinsley’s intellectual retardation is not the pandemic in America he seems to believe in — not yet at least. If Americans really believe that smoking is what makes or breaks a president, they would not have elected him.
