The law banning sale of foie gras in Chicago restaurants, widely disobeyed, has now been repealed.
Protections against cruelty to animals make sense and these do exist. Making it a crime for restaurateurs to offer goose liver on their menus was madness of a sort we see growing worldwide. The Chicago City Council has, on this particular issue, given sanity a second chance. That’s fine. That’s a speck of reason. We’ll be satisfied when insane policies are banned.

The Illinois smoking ban is widely disobeyed too. We applaud this and note that the human will to freedom never dies. Tyranny must and shall be broken wherever it arises. Citizens and hospitality venues are going to choose menu items, and smoking policies, when activism and rebellion force the return of reason as a principle of social policy.
