The Council members of Summerville, S.C. tabled a bill which would have banned smoking in the county. The reason given was that the members didn’t have a chance to read the bill after three years of debate.
South Carolina does not have a state wide smoking ban and in this recession banning smoking would not be healthy to the local economy. Smoking bans have an immediate impact on the bar and restaurant business suffering losses from 20 to 40%, and causing many to close. The city council has showed some common sense for a change.
The debate will continue. If you live in Summerville, write or call the council and let them know that you believe in choice. That’s what America is all about.
