Bully State

The Bully State is a book published by the Free Society which is now available for review in the Forces International library:

Brian Monteith, a former member of the Scottish Parliament, reveals how the nanny state came to be and why, unsatisfied with our stubborn resistance to her pleas to change our behaviour, the bully state has been brought in to enforce a stricter code of conduct.

Despite this, Monteith remains optimistic, explaining how we can beat the bullies and remain free to enjoy our liberty.
THE GREAT PRANK

The hoax of the vaccine for the H1N1 vaccine, orchestrated by Big Pharma, has been made with the same technique used with the invention of passive smoking, the threatener of non-smokers’s lives. BP convinced (how? I leave it to the reader’s imagination) some scientific advisors of the WHO, that the world was threatened by a pandemic of influenza H1N1, worse than that of 1918.
Fake Medical Researche(r)s

In the section Health of The New York Times of August 4, 2009, in the subsection Research, there was an article, by Natasha Singer, revealing the shady business of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. I do not know if that information was published in other papers, but certainly it did not draw the attention of the world’s mass media. Had that malpractice involved Big Tobacco, you can bet it, it would have become one of the main issues in newspapers, magazines and television all around the world.

Did you decide to quit smokin? (Number two)

It was over two years ago when, to smokers wishing to quit smoking, I dedicated an article titled: Did you decide to quit smoking?
At that time, among the drugs that pretended to help the smoker to quit, the bank was held by the Buprupion (Zyban) and the Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). The Varenicline (CHANTIX) was also in the market but it was not yet as popular.

Sugar Tax

FORCES International columnist Edmund Contoski reports on how a proposed national tax on sugar-sweetened beverages would be unfair, ineffective, and downright ludicrous…
Founding Weed

Robert Prasker comments on the instrumental role tobacco played in settling America, and the true origins of the Thanksgiving holiday.

A CRACK ON OBESITY

"Rising obesity will cost U.S. health care $344 billion a year"

is the eye catching title of an article of USA TODAY, of November 16, 2009, where Nancy Hellmich writes that <a study released in July 2009 showed that obese Americans cost the country about $147 billion in weight-related medical bills in 2008, and that it will cost the USA about $344 billion in medical-related expenses by 2018>.
More From The UK Health Service

In 1997 Tony Blair came to power in the UK with a promise of transforming the National Health Service but 10 years later a person was more likely to come out of a UK hospital in worse health than when they went in and patients were regularly dying in hospital corridors for lack of beds.
